A: We offer two kinds of courses at all grade levels: Dramatic Arts and Theatre Production. Please see the course description page for more information.
A: Students may register directly for both Dramatic Arts and Theatre Production. No audition is necessary to sign up for either course, however, for Theatre Production, placement auditions (cast) and interviews (crew) will be held early in September for students in Theatre Production to determine their various roles and responsibilities. Everyone who is enrolled will be included in the production in some capacity.
A: Just like any course, yes, there are assessments, however, in Drama class the way you will be assessed will be based on your demonstration of growth in the practical areas in which you are being instructed. There will be written activities as well, but, as a performance-based activity, the products you create are largely performance-based.
A: A typical Drama class will start with an introductory exercise or activity to strengthen and refine physical, emotional, intellectual, vocal, or auditory skills; these prepare us for the work to come and often are in the form of a game or exercise. This is followed by explicit instruction from the instructor (This is how...) and a practical experience of the topic through an activity. Each class concludes with small and large group discussion and reflection on the day's learnings and experiences, as well as a preview of the next class's activities.
A: The kind of show put on will vary from year to year between musicals at plays, but Theatre Production is a large scale dramatic production that culminates in several performances late in semester two.
A: We will perform for the public once public health orders allow us to do so.
A: No! There is no course fee.
A: Yes, high school Dramatic Arts programs are provincially recognized by universities and post-secondary institutions as being courses that qualify for university entrance grade point average calculations. Our grade 12 students report that having this course is helpful in the attainment of scholarships and résumé building.
A: Yes, absolutely! Our students come to us from at least eight different middle schools, each with unique experiences and skills. All are welcome! We believe in meeting students at their current ability level and providing them with the instruction and resources to refine their practice of art-making.
A: We will perform three evening shows and one matinée in late March / early April.
