I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Mathematics under the supervision of DR. Mousumi Mandal in IIT Kharagpur. My broad area of research is Commutative Algebra.
Research Statement: Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity is an essential invariant in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. It is a kind of universal bound for important invariants of graded algebras such as the maximum degree of the syzygies and the maximum non-vanishing degree of the local cohomology modules. The Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of an R−module M helps us to compute the Hilbert polynomial of M. Many researchers have tried to find an upper bound for the regularity in terms of simpler invariants, but the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity cannot be bounded in terms of dimension and multiplicity. In my Ph.d. I shall try to find a bound (preferably linear) using higher Hilbert coefficients for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity (also known as regularity) in a local Cohen-Macaulay ring R.
