Research Experience:
Graduate Research Assistant
- Advisor : Prof. Thomas Ploetz, Georgia Tech
- Activity Recognition :
- Working on a NIH funded research project in the domain of Activity Recognition. Studying severe behavior exhibited by autistic children
- Using machine learning, signal processing and deep learning for analyzing streams of sensor data.
- Working towards building models with temporal context to segment and classify these activities.
- Data studied is collected using both body-worn sensors and videos
Research Student
- Advisor : Prof. Eric Gilbert [worked in collaboration with Tanushree Mitra, a former PhD student], Georgia Tech
- Conspiracy Theories on Reddit :
- Studying conspiracy theories on reddit
- Study of the r/conspiracy and r/conspiracyAMA subreddit
- Data gathering from these two subreddits – working with bigquery and the google cloud storage
- Obtaining knowledge out of this data
- Fetching user timelines for the users who have participated in these subreddits
- Identifying the basic thread structure of these subreddits
- Applying sophisticated techniques to study the thread structure (study based on ongoing work in this field in the comp.social lab)
- Future Work:
- Time frame of a conspiracy, influential factors for a conspiracy
- External factors influencing or that gave rise to these theories
- Study can be geared towards the users – How do they behave on other forums? Does the information they gather elsewhere affect the kind of discussions held on this subreddit? Does information percolate?
- Can we predict discussions given a situation where a new but similar conspiracy were to be faced?
