About Me

My name is Shreya Bhattacharya and I graduated with a doctoral degree in Economics at the University of Houston. My research interests are in the fields of Development Economics, Urban Economics, Political Economy and Behavioral Economics. 

I have always been excited to study the role that economics has to play in answering questions seemingly influenced by social and cultural factors. I am particularly interested in studying the interplay of economic, social and cultural forces in the issues that plague developing countries. My current research includes the study of caste interactions and religious conflict .

A great place to gain more exposure as a doctoral candidate interested in interdisciplinary issues is UNU-WIDER in Helsinki, Finland. I was a Visiting PhD Fellow at UNU-WIDER in Fall 2018, and you can read more about my experiences in a blog post here.
