WEAKNESSES
In this scene, Shrek was describing how he would terrorize Lord Farquaad's kingdom (which he did not do of course). However, he did use some explicit words when he was explaining it to Donkey. Since this movie also has children as viewers it might be a tad inappropriate as they might look up the meanings of all these "newfound" words.
In the beginning of the movie, people are capturing fairytale creatures as those who do will be rewarded. This is because they are being exiled as they are seen as a disturbance in the kingdom. This is also shows clear representation of the dark realization of people selling other people for money.
Judged for being Different
While it is undeniable that Shrek does indeed looks ugly and sometimes scary, we cannot forget that Shrek also have feelings and insecurities and from the scene below, it seems as if these judgments have really taken a toll on his opinions of others and is his sole reason why he does not prefer to interact. This particular scene shows the audience the cruelty of those who criticizes people just based on their looks. People and even ogres (in this scenario) have feelings and we should not make them feel bad about themselves for something they cannot change.
STRENGTHS
The creators really made a good selection of voice actors to impersonate these lovable characters. Especially Eddie Murphy whom successfully brought Donkey's character to life with his iconic laughs and him also covering songs in the movie itself.
The opening scene has become one of my favorite scenes from the movie solely because of the song that accompanies it. In my opinion, a song can really compliments the movie well if chosen correctly and for this particular movie, the movie creators really hit their mark.
At the end of the movie, Shrek kisses Princess Fiona and we all assumed she will turn to her "true form" after having her true love's kiss. But that is not the case. Fiona ended up still in her ogre form. While some might disagree of this plot twist, this proves that even if you might look "ugly" to others, those who truly love you will accept you for who you are - no matter what you look like.
