Check out So you want to be an astronomer by Yvette Cendes, and the updated version, which is a really useful resource. However, it might be a bit specific to the Western context. In India, we don’t (yet!) have a BSc in Astronomy on the menu, but don’t let that stop you! The good news? It really doesn’t matter what your undergrad was in - well, to an extent. I know students who studied Physics, Electrical Engineering, even Materials Engineering, and they're all now pursuing PhDs in Astronomy. So, what’s the secret sauce? Of course, a deep love for astronomy, which goes without saying, but also, summer internships in the field. These aren’t just about picking up the right skills (though that’s a major plus); they’re also about building your network in the field. When it’s time to apply for that PhD, knowing the right people in the field can open a lot of doors! Where can you find internships? Scroll down for some ideas!
