Hello, Stormrays!
Shorewood has a new mascot. Learn more here and watch the student-produced video introducing the Stormrays.
What else has changed at Shorewood? Lots... At our last reunion, the buildings where we attended high school had been emptied and were getting ready for demolition. Ten years later, the new campus seems to be doing pretty well.
Imagine, indoor hallways!
Farewell to skating
In the last few years, Shoreline bid adieu to two skating rinks. One was the longstanding Highland Ice Area, which closed last year (memories from Senior Lifetime Sports, anyone?).
For a moment, Shoreline was also host to The Nest, the practice site for Rat City Roller Derby. The Nest packed up in 2019, when the building was sold for redevelopment.
While you can't find places to skate indoors anymore, the outdoor Connie King Skate Park at the Paramount School Park is worth a visit for some wheeled recreation.
Looking for other kinds of indoor fun? Rest assured - Spin Alley Bowling is still open and operating.
Sasquatch or Chewbacca?
Did you know that the elusive Sasquatch has finally been found? According to the City of Shoreline, Sasquatch has been living in our hometown.
That leaves us wondering - are you sure this is Sasquatch? Or is it a few Chewbaccas moving back in with our families? (Because - have you seen the housing prices?!)
A New Neighbor
Twenty years ago, if asked for directions to Shorewood, one might have said "Drive north along Aurora and take a left at the strip club."
Not so anymore. That notorious nightclub, Shorewood's next-door neighbor, closed in 2010.
Now, in 2023, there's a new tenant in the building: Black Coffee Northwest, a thriving community hub and gathering space.
Let's raise a cup of espresso in a toast to new neighbors!
