Each year, breast cancer claims the life of more than 40,000 women and men. Behind that number are thousands more children, spouses, friends and colleagues who are devastated by the loss of their loved one.
Our group of incredible volunteers in the Wisconsin Rapids area have been working for 25 years to raise funds for breast cancer research in hopes of changing those numbers. Doris Laskowski along with the entire "Shooting for a Cure" planning committee are continuing their work in 2026 by hosting their annual fundraising pool tournament. This year's event will be held on Saturday, April 11 - Sunday, April 12th at Gordie's in Wisconsin Rapids.
Proceeds from "Shooting for a Cure" are designated to breast cancer research at Marshfield Clinic Health System. Since the event began 25 years ago, it has generated over $500,000 for breast cancer research!! At MCHS, our scientists and physicians use these funds to provide patients with a better diagnosis and treatment plan when faced with breast cancer.
Current research includes:Â
Clinical Research in different treatment methods such as, comparing medications, and radiation treatment plans to find the most effective treatments
Genetic Research to determine how a patient's genetics will affect their cancer experience, helping to identify the best treatment plan
