Now for 2012 to 2018 Versys 1000 models!
Hi Steve,
I got to take the Versys out on track. Weather was a little wet, then damp, then it dried out. Overall, it did amazing! The throttle response is spot on, and it feels like a noticable increase in midrange. This may be just a result of how smooth it is, but I like it. In the wet, that 1%-5% throttle control is important, and it was perfect.
Job well done!

2015 versys 1000, decatted stock header
This is a comprehensive flash, and includes the following changes to the ECU:
- Intake air pressure fuel maps optimized and different for each header setup;
-Throttle position fuel maps optimized and different for each header setup;
- Extensive reworking of the ignition timing table
- All gear based secondary throttle maps, both accel and decel optimized;
- Deceleration fuel cut is defeated, off/on throttle is smooth as butter!
- Rev limiter is raised 500 rpm to 10,000 with the stock header, 10,300 rpm for the Delkevic and Black Widow header flashes.
- Engine cooling fan on temp lowered 10*;
- off throttle fuel cut deleted, fueling corrected so there is no exhaust popping on hard decelerations;
- pair light shut off should you want delete the system with block off plates;
- Optional 1st gear wheelie suppression - Wheelies are cool, but they're not fast. I have an optional map for 1st gear wheelie suppression. I run this map, but others may not choose to - you decide what's best for you!
- Excessive deceleration braking has been eliminated. No more feeling like you're going over the bars on a hard throttle close. Deceleration is appropriate and gear specific;
- upshifts are smooth, no more jerkiness.
- Strong Idle even at 900 rpm, no more stalling while trying to get moving!

DYNO CHARTS
The purpose of the following charts is to help you decide how you may want to modify your Versys1000, and which exhaust choice is best for you.
1) STOCK vs all STOCK with a Shoodaben Engineering ECU FLASH.
2) stock VS Full black widow system
3) Stock vs full delkevic system, or a decatted stock header and delk slip on.
4) Aftermarket headers with open slip on's get LOUD and can result in a loss of light throttle response. We need some back pressure to bring the light throttle response back. Here I have drilled 48 .187" (3/16") holes through the sides of the Delkevic DBKiller, and reinstalled it. The result is imparting back pressure at light throttle settings and bringing light throttle response back, and no meaningful restriction of WOT power. (blue is the drilled DBKiller)
THIS IS WHAT TUNING IS ALL ABOUT
Notes on headers
The Delkevic header is a copy of the stock header . It's a 4 into 1 with a bifurcating plate in the collector. It is a small tube header, 32mm head pipes, same as the stock unit. It is sharp to throttle input at lighter throttle settings, but lacks the capacity to make much more power than stock.It is well made, and fit / finish is good.
The Black widow header is a true tri-y header, which I prefer for all around power. It has 38mm head pipes, and I would consider it a large tube header for this application. It displays very well on the dyno, although I'm not in love with the torque dip around 5000 rpm. It feels softer to light throttle input (regular riding around) than the Delkevic or stock headers. It's slight, but present. This can be brought back on line by imparting some back pressure, see dyno chart #4. Clearly it's the power winner at WOT. I also notice a fuel economy improvement with this header, vs stock or the Delkevic. The pipe is well made, fit and finish are way beyond what I would expect at this price point. I will be keeping the Black Widow Header on my Versys 1000.
