SHOES FOR SIDRA

Join Seattle Families for Ceasefire on September 15th, as we grieve Sidra and over 16,500* other children killed in Palestine. Our collective grief is a call to action:
WE DEMAND AN ARMS EMBARGO AND
A PERMANENT CEASEFIRE

DATE | 10:30 AM, Sunday, September 15th 2024

LOCATION | The Arch at Green Lake Park (on the east side of the community center, and south of the playground)

DETAILS | A short solidarity-circle program, with poetry and music, will begin at 10:45 AM. Seattle Families for Ceasefire will provide art and craft-making supplies to facilitate mindfulness and introspection. We will also have light snacks, coffee and sweets to share.

WHAT TO BRING | We encourage people to bring used children's shoes to donate to the installation along with flowers, but these items are not required. To donate children's shoes ahead of the action, please see drop sites listed above. Donation drop-sites close on Friday 9/13, at noon.

Sidra Hassouna, a 7-year-old Palestinian girl, was killed in an Israeli airstrike that tore off both her legs and left her body hanging from a destroyed house. Sidra is but one of over 16,500* children killed in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

We signify our grief with a simple of act of laying out shoes—as many as we can gather—to try to convey the human loss and the scale of the injustice.

*The peer-reviewed medical journal The Lancet has published a study estimating the total death toll could exceed 186,000.

Sidra left this earth without legs and feet. She and many children like her no longer need shoes. We as a global community have failed to protect them, and it is our responsibility to share their stories and honor their lives. Our humanity depends on it.
