The Eta Delta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on November 10, 1979, and is based in northwestern Alabama in an area known as the Shoals, inclusive of Lauderdale County, Colbert County, Lawrence County, and Franklin County. This area is approximately one hour to the west of Huntsville, two hours from Birmingham, AL, Nashville, TN, and Memphis, TN. The area is home to the University of North Alabama, Heritage Christian University, and Northwest-Shoals Community College.
In 1998, the Eta Delta Sigma Chapter was successful in identifying 9 young men at the University of North Alabama who wanted to join Phi Beta Sigma and start a chapter of Phi Beta Sigma at their college. With assistance from the Beta Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Huntsville, AL, the Beta Beta Alpha Chapter was established, and recognized by the University on December 4, 2010.
During the year 2019, the Eta Delta Sigma Chapter was re-activated. The Chapter had been active until 2000, and once again in 2005. In December 2018, twelve Brothers made the commitment to support the Chapter, its activities and objectives. On January 26, 2019, the Brothers ratified a new Chapter Constitution and became active with the blessings of the 2019 State Director for Alabama, Brother Joseph T. Alexander, Jr., and the 2019 Southern Regional Director, Roy Edmonds. Brother Marco Rice was elected as the 2019 President of the Eta Delta Sigma Chapter.
