How much does it cost to participate?
- The pre-pay fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children (17 and under). At the event, the fee is $12 for adults and $6 for children. The fee covers the cost of renting portable rest rooms and s’mores materials. Any excess funds generated will be donated to participating local Girl Scout and Cub/Boy Scout organizations.
What should I bring to the potluck dinner?
- You can bring a side dish, main course or dessert. It can be something that you prepare beforehand at home unless you want to bring your own cooking gear to cook at camp. If it needs to be heated, you will need to bring your own stove or arrange to use someone else’s. Bring a serving utensil. An ingredients list would be helpful to those with allergies. Label all of your items with your name!
When does the event start on Saturday, August 25th?
- You can arrive any time after 2PM. Check in at the registration area and you will be given your campsite assignment.
When does the event end on Sunday, August 26th?
- You can choose to have breakfast at camp on Sunday morning, or you can pack up and hit Dunks on your way home. We aim to have the camp cleared out by 10AM.
Can I attend the fun stuff on Saturday and not camp out?
- Sure! Come enjoy the fun and then have a comfy sleep in your own bed while the rest of us rough it (j/k). You’re more than welcome to attend the Saturday activities and not camp overnight. Just register as if you are camping and let the volunteer at the registration tent know that you will not be camping overnight. The fee will remain the same.
Is there a rain date?
- While we won't cancel in the event of sprinkles or scattered showers, if we are going to get some severe weather we will cancel.
Can I use the Benjamin Hill Pool?
- Access to the Benjamin Hill Pool is not part of the event. However, if you’re a pool member or want to pay for pool admission, you’re welcome to hit the pool. The pool is strictly off limits when the facility is closed.
What are the Youth Protection Policies?
- We would like all attendees to follow Youth Protection Policies similar to what is used in Boy Scouts. These policies are designed to protect children from child abuse and from bullying. Please share these rules with your children.
- No un-related adult is to be alone 1 on 1 with a child out of view of others; there must be at least either two adults present or two children present.
- Un-related adults are not to sleep in the same tent as a child. Children may share tents with each other.
- There is to be no bully or hazing during the camp out event. Any adult should feel empowered to intervene in a situation where bullying is occurring.
Is alcohol allowed?
- No alcohol is allowed during the event.
What kinds of activities are there for adults?
- Adults are welcome to participate in games. There is a tent petting zoo so that you may look at how different tents are assembled and what their uses are. A foil packet cooking demonstration. A display of cooking gear for use in different types of campouts. A daytime hike. A campfire and s’mores.
What kinds of activities are there for kids?
- Scout groups will run a few types of group games that kids (and adults) can play, such as Counting Coup, Steal the Bacon, SPUD. Participate in a foil packet cooking demonstration. Natural history demonstration: How dinosaurs evolved into birds. A daytime hike. A campfire and s’mores.
I don’t own a tent, may I borrow one?
