Sea Scout Leadership and Advancement
Quarterdeck
In the Sea Scout program, a "quarterdeck" refers to a leadership body, of elected youth officers to plan activities and manage the unit's programs. The term "quarterdeck" originates from maritime tradition, where it was the raised deck area of a ship where the officer of the watch or other commanding officers would stand.
Rank
The four Sea Scout ranks are Apprentice, Ordinary, Able, and Quartermaster. To advance, a Sea Scout learns maritime skills, safety, and leadership. Apprentice shows basic skills, Ordinary requires more knowledge and service, Able involves leadership and advanced skills, and Quartermaster is the highest rank, equivalent to Eagle Scout, demonstrating exceptional leadership and service
