Lucy and James Shinn
The Mission Peak Heritage Foundation is looking for students and adults who would like to become house docents. The Shinn family's history is told by docents in costume while giving tours of the Shinn House.
Read how you can become a docent or a student docent.
The MPHF also sponsors events like Ice Cream Socials, Art & Crafts in Shinn Park, Paint Your Pumpkin, house teas, and annual holiday tours. We need help setting up and taking down and with food service.
Student volunteers helped make the 2019 Ice Cream Social a success. Find our events on VolunteerMatch.
High school community service hours can be fulfilled by volunteering at our events or by becoming a student docent.
Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum lists events.
The gardens at Shinn Park are a favorite location for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, quiet walks, meditation, family photographs, and picnics.
Gardeners who belong to the garden club, the Friends of Heirloom Flowers, help take care of the gardens at Shinn Park, maintaining the rose garden, cottage garden, Japanese garden, and other gardens around the grounds. Gardener docents tell visitors about the history of the Shinn family and their gardens.
We meet Tuesdays from 10-12:00 and break at noon for snacks and socializing. We are always happy to have volunteers for one day or every Tuesday.
High school volunteer hours can be fulfilled by helping in the gardens.
We welcome new volunteers: Retirees, students, and others who like to work in public gardens. Contact Angie angela_schmidt@sbcglobal.net for more information
