This artwork is an homage to Katsushika Hokusai's Shunga series "Fukujuso," where limbs and facial expressions were extracted from twelve individual pieces and layered onto one canvas. Originally, Kaneko would layer these Shunga pictures in order to identify patterns in the portrayal of limbs by various artists. This piece evolved from that technique, consolidating the twelve images into one to create a new expression.
