I am dedicated to contributing to a student's growth, both musically and personally. My goal is to teach students of diverse ages and backgrounds by tailoring instruction to individual learning styles and helping each student reach their artistic potential.
My advanced training is in collaborative piano, beginning with a Bachelor’s degree from Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. I then earned advanced degrees in Piano and Vocal Accompanying from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. I completed my Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I studied with renowned teachers including Rita Sloan and Eileen Cornett.
My teaching experience includes serving as faculty at Oikos University, where I have taught piano and music theory courses. I direct a private piano studio in Frisco, TX, and am the co-founder of Avec Piano, an ensemble dedicated to collaborative performance.
In addition to teaching, I have worked as a vocal coach and collaborative pianist for the Peabody Preparatory, the Peabody Opera Department, and the Maryland Opera Studio. I have also been fortunate to receive fellowships from SongFest and the Aspen Music Festival, where I collaborated with leading artists and refined my skills as both a performer and educator.
Dr. Shin's students are consistently recognized for their musical excellence at regional, national, and international levels.
