Dr. Shijuan Chen is a remote sensing scientist specializing in land system change monitoring. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Before joining UMass Boston, she was a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University. She earned her Ph.D. in Earth and Environment from Boston University. Her research focuses on land system changes, the underlying drivers, and resulting impacts. Her research interests include:
Remote sensing and geospatial science
Land cover and land use change
Deforestation and forest degradation
Terrestrial ecosystem and carbon cycle
Urbanization and human-environment interactions
Shijuan takes lead roles in multiple research projects funded by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and USGS (United States Geological Survey).
