What’s the deadline to submit an abstract?
The call for abstracts for the Shifting Landscape conference is open until January 31st 2022.
Do you accept late submissions?
All extended abstracts must be submitted through the online form and be received by the official deadline. If you are unable to submit your abstract through our portal please email us.
How can I register? Is there a registration fee?
You will be able to register for the conference, regardless of acceptance, via our platform. There is no registration fee for all participants (presenters and other participants).
What will be provided during the conference?/what will the registration provide access to?
All registrants have access to all sessions and events. The following food and beverages are also included for participants attending in person:
Wednesday social drinks
Wednesday reception dinner
Thursday catered breakfast
Thursday lunch
Tea and coffee during the breaks
Is there funding available to help with travel/accommodation?
To ensure a diverse set of participants, we have secured some funding and are looking to provide more for travel and accommodation of students not currently residing in London. Each funding application is reviewed on the basis of the participant’s financial needs.
What accommodations do you recommend?
LSE has an affiliation with Club Quarters. Their Covent Garden location is right across from Lincoln's Inn Fields. If the Covent Garden one is fully booked, there is also a St Paul's location which is a 15min walk from LSE. There are also several Travelodge and Premier Inn locations within walking distance of LSE.
I am already receiving travel/accommodation funding from my university, am I still eligible to apply for a travel/accommodation grant from the conference?
We do not provide support for participants already in receipt of full funding support from another source. However, for those who are only in receipt of partial funding, you may qualify for funding support from the conference. Full details and evidence that you are unable to obtain full funding from your university, institution or department should be sent to lsegeog.conference@outlook.com separately after submitting your abstract to allow us to evaluate your case.
How many abstracts can I submit?
We allow for only one submission and presentation per participant.
Can abstracts from two or more authors be submitted?
Yes, papers can be co-authored with other PhD students, post-docs and/or faculty members. We will assume that the one who submits the paper is the one who will present the paper at the conference and we will not allow faculty members to present in our parallel sessions. Should the designed presenter change at a later point due to other commitments please let us know as soon as possible to update our calendar.
Will I be asked to submit my paper in its entirety before the conference?
Yes, all presenters are requested to submit a full version of the accepted paper a few weeks before the conference. This version will only be shared with the discussant and it will be used internally for evaluation for the best paper award (if opted in at the time of the submission).
I have not completed my experiment/empirical research etc. but will have at the time of conference. Can I still submit?
Yes. All prospective participants need to submit only an extended abstract through the website / online form by January 31st. If the research is not yet completed at the time of submission, we encourage you to explain in the abstract at what time the research is expected to be completed. If the abstract is accepted for presentation, we will request a full paper about two weeks before the conference to be shared with the discussant and for the evaluation for the best paper award.
Given the Covid-19 pandemic I don’t know if I’ll be able to be in London to present. Does that mean I shouldn’t submit my abstract?
Not at all! While we want the conference to be in-person for the majority of the sessions, as we think it allows us to get to know each other in a more informal setting, we understand there might be limitations outside of your control. You will be able to present online (through Zoom) and we will set up rooms that allow you to be seen and share your slides with the people attending the conference in London so you can get an experience as close as possible to the one of an in-person conference.
Can I attend the conference as an auditor? Both in person and online?
This is a complicated question in a pandemic. You will definitely be able to attend all the sessions and keynotes online, but whether you’ll be able to attend in person depends on a risk assessment that the LSE will conduct in the weeks prior to the conference. We will keep participants and registrants updated via email so look for information closer to the time of the conference!
My issue is not listed in your FAQs, what can I do?
Please drop us an email at lsegeog.conference@outlook.com! We tried to cover common questions in the FAQs and will keep updating them as the time moves forward but you’re welcome to email us about anything we have not covered here/more personal questions!
