Shift Tracker Privacy Policy
Effective: June 2026 | Extension Version 1.1
Shift Tracker is a browser extension that works entirely offline and is designed to help users calculate daily attendance time from raw punch-in and punch-out logs. Created and maintained by Aniket Nagpure as a personal productivity tool, the extension processes only the information that users manually paste into it. It does not transmit any data to external servers, create user accounts, make network requests, or rely on any backend infrastructure. By installing or using the extension, users agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Shift Tracker is built with privacy as a core principle. The extension collects no personal information, sends no data to external services, and includes no analytics, advertisements, trackers, or telemetry of any kind. All calculations and processing occur locally within the browser, and all data remains on the user's device at all times.
During normal operation, the extension temporarily accesses only a small amount of information required to perform its functions. This includes attendance logs pasted by the user, the system clock used for calculating session durations and estimated shift completion times, and temporary interface settings such as Early Leave mode. These items exist only in memory while the extension popup is open. The extension does not collect crash reports, error logs, usage analytics, or any other diagnostic information.
Shift Tracker does not store data persistently. It does not use chrome.storage, localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, cookies, or any other storage mechanism. All pasted attendance records, calculated durations, and user interface states are held exclusively in the JavaScript memory of the extension popup. When the popup is closed, this memory is automatically released by the browser and all associated data is immediately discarded. As a result, there is nothing for users to manually delete because nothing is ever saved.
The extension does not integrate with any third-party services. It does not use analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Amplitude; crash-reporting tools such as Sentry, Bugsnag, or Rollbar; advertising networks; cloud synchronization services; or remote APIs and backend systems. The extension's source code contains no outbound network requests, and users can verify this by reviewing the code directly.
Shift Tracker requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function. The activeTab permission allows the extension popup to operate when the user clicks the extension icon on the currently active browser tab, but it does not permit access to page content, form data, or browsing history. The scripting permission allows extension scripts to run when needed for extension functionality, but it does not inject scripts into external websites without explicit user action. The extension does not request access to browsing history, bookmarks, cookies, broad tab access, web requests, or any permissions that would enable monitoring of browsing activity.
Because the extension does not collect or store personal data, there is no information available for export, correction, or deletion by the developer. Users maintain complete control over their data at all times. Attendance information can be cleared instantly by selecting "New Data" within the extension or simply by closing the popup window. Users who wish to stop all processing can uninstall the extension through Chrome's extensions management page. Additionally, the extension's JavaScript source files can be inspected at any time through Chrome's extension inspection tools.
Shift Tracker is intended for workplace and educational attendance tracking and is generally designed for adult users. However, because the extension does not collect any information from users, including children under the age of 13 or the applicable age of digital consent, there is no risk of inadvertent collection or storage of children's personal data.
If the extension's data practices ever change in a future release—for example, through the introduction of optional cloud synchronization—this Privacy Policy will be updated before such features become available. The effective date at the top of the policy will be revised accordingly, and significant changes will also be communicated through the Chrome Web Store listing and extension release notes. Continued use of the extension following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
