About
I am a Shibori textile artist who creates works rooted in the ancient Japanese art of resist dyeing. Shibori embodies patience, precision, and the beauty of imperfection (wabi-sabi). Using techniques such as Itajime, Arashi, Kumo, and Nui, I fold, bind, and stitch fabric to create patterns that feel both spontaneous and intentional.
Shibori is an organic process involving a complex interplay between fabric, dye, and technique. There is invariably an element of unpredictability, of surprise. I enjoy not knowing exactly how a pattern will unfold until the final reveal. This sense of discovery keeps my practice alive and exciting.
As a pragmatist, I value both form and function. My pieces are designed to be lived with—whether draped as a scarf, displayed as wall art, or worn as an accessory that makes a statement. There’s a particular satisfaction in creating something both beautiful and useful, something that seamlessly integrates beauty into everyday life.
Learning is at the core of my artistic vocation/my creative work. It seems that with every fold, every dye bath, and every workshop I learn something new. I find deep satisfaction in sharing this passion through teaching, inviting others to experience the meditative process of Shibori and to discover their own creativity. Ultimately, I hope my art brings a sense of connection, beauty, and timeless elegance to those who experience it.
