So I don't think it takes a lot to see that LXG can be considered a direct sequel to GoS. Even trite things like a different actor for Moriarty can be explained with the false face technique and the dialog seems to support this. The timing works out. Moriarty's plot is very similar, but in LXG he has lost his fortune and is relying on developing new superweapons instead of controlling the supply of current weapons. Moriarty is still holding out to the idea that World War I is about to break out and he wants to make money by supplying the countries. He'll keep trying to start the war, but he's content to wait if he has to.

That's pretty much how I picture the decision making process that gave Guy Ritchie the task of revamping Sherlock Holmes. Maybe the film began life as Shanghai Nights 2 (Or Shanghai Noon 3 I guess) but Owen Wilson grew back some balls and pulled out. The London setting was retained so they needed a London director. Guy Ritchie, whose balls are still owned by Madonna, sheepishly agreed under the condition that it have some cultural import. The producers then scrambled around looking for something to pillage that was in the public domain so they didn't have to pay or consult any live authors: Sherlock Homes! They could keep the martial arts coreographer because Sherlock mentioned learning a Japanese form of self defence once in one of his many books. The tree becomes Sherlock and the dog becomes Watson, which in turn becomes Robert Downey Jr. and (Russel Crowe!?) respectively.

After taking the lead on Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Guy Ritchie will not return to direct Sherlock Holmes 3. Delay after delay on Sherlock Holmes 3 means development is just now getting underway with an eye on a December 2021 release date. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are expected to return, and now, the sequel has a director. In July, Warner Bros. - the studio behind the first two Sherlock Holmes films - confirmed they have chosen Dexter Fletcher to direct Sherlock Holmes 3. But why isn't Ritchie coming back?

Ritchie infused lots of his gritty, directorial spirit into Sherlock Holmes, making for the Baker Street sleuth a man, for example, who was as comfortable bare-knuckle boxing as he was playing the violin. The success of Sherlock Holmes led to a second film, also directed by Ritchie. Both films did well at the box office, each earning more than $520 million worldwide, respectively. By the end of 2011, Ritchie would have been a favorable bet for WB. However, things may have gotten dicey for Ritchie when he directed The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword for the studio. The success of Sherlock Holmes didn't rub off on either of these films; they were financial bombs. U.N.C.L.E. made $110 million worldwide on a $75 million budget. King Arthur did even worse with $148.6 million worldwide on a $175 million budget. Warner Bros.' faith in Ritchie to produce hits may have waned by the time King Arthur left theaters.

Fletcher's recent directing record is a huge selling point and it's easy to see why Warner Bros. chose him. Fletcher has played a pivotal role in the recent respective successes of hit music biopics Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, which have respectively earned critical and box office success. In the case of Bohemian Rhapsody, Fletcher stepped in toward the end of principal photography when the movie's first director, Bryan Singer, was fired for a number of on-set issues.

Helming large-scale films about men with big personalities seems to be perfect when looking for a director to take on the next Sherlock Holmes film. It's not all bad for Ritchie, even if he's not moving forward with Sherlock Holmes 3. Next, he will be working on The Gentleman, starring Hugh Grant, before it hits theaters in 2020. Given that production has already wrapped on The Gentleman, working on post for that film is unlikely the reason Ritchie isn't returning.

Tom and Jerry: Back to Oz is a 2016 fantasy comedy direct-to-video sequel to Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz. In the film, Tom and Jerry team up with Dorothy and her friends as they return to the Land of Oz to stop a new villain, the Nome King, from taking over Emerald City. This movie was dedicated to voice artist Joe Alaskey who appears in his final film role after his death in February 2016.

"Meitantai Holmes" ("Famous DetectiveHolmes", or "Sherlock Hound") is the last TV series Miyazakimade. It was made as a joint project between Tokyo Movie Shinsha and anItalian TV station, RAI, in 1981. Miyazaki directed 6 episodes (and wrotescripts for some of them), but the production was put on hold due to acopyright dispute with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate. Two of the episodes,"The Blue Carbuncle" and "Treasure under the Sea" werethen finally theater released with "Nausicaa" in 1984, with thedisclaimer, "This film has nothing to do with Conan Doyle's SherlockHolmes". Since it was well received and the copyright dispute wasfinally resolved, Tokyo Movie Shinsha decided to make more episodes of"Holmes" and to air it as a TV series as originally planned.Of course, Miyazaki was no longer working there, so the new episodes weremade by totally different staff members from the first 6 episodes.

That's right, after a protracted absence from cinemas, Robert Downey Jr. is officially set to reprise his role as the famed occupant of 221 Baker Street in another big-screen Sherlock Holmes adventure. Per Variety, when the tentatively titled Sherlock Holmes 3 finally begins production, it will do so with a fresh face in the director's chair: that of Rocketman helmer Dexter Fletcher.

For those of you keeping track of the beloved franchise, Fletcher is taking the Sherlock Holmes reigns from Guy Ritchie, who directed both 2009's Sherlock Holmes, and 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. If you're wondering why series' producers are moving on from Ritchie, well, he's a very busy man these days, having just helmed the live-action adaptation of Aladdin for Disney. Plus, he's hard at work putting the finishing touches on the upcoming Matthew McConaughey crime flick The Gentleman. There's also good reason to wonder how much interest Ritchie still has in the Sherlock Holmes world after the better part of a decade has passed since the last film hit theaters. There's even better reason to think that Sherlock producers didn't want to wait a day longer than necessary to bring a new Sherlock tale to the big screen.

Though the Sherlock franchise will certainly miss the kinetic energy Ritchie brings to all of his movies, the series appears to be in more than capable hands with Fletcher guiding the action. Though the actor-director has but four features to his credit, those films (particularly this year's gloriously stylized Rocketman ) have more than proven he's got a certain flair for drama. And even if Fletcher didn't get a legit "directed by" credit on 2018's Bohemian Rhapsody, he more than proved himself able of taking over a project from another filmmaker at any point in production and putting his own stamp on things. Either way, it will be interesting to see how Fletcher adapts to working on a film with the scale and budget Sherlock 3 is certain to sport.

Given that Stranger Things Season 5 is one of the top priorities for Netflix (per GamesRadar), it is possible that production for Enola Holmes 3 won't begin until filming for the show's final season has wrapped.

The biggest example is the BBC show starring Benedict Cumberbatch. While the series was airing by the time the second Sherlock Holmes released, it wasn't until the second season finale in 2012 when its popularity skyrocketed. Those who have watched will know the exact cliffhanger that caused it as well.

I can see the appeal of a direct proof, for it often provides more insight into why and how the relationship between the premises and conclusions works, but I would like to know what your thoughts are concerning this.

Edit: I understand that this question is quite subjective, but that is my intention. There are people who prefer direct proofs more than proof by contradiction, for example. My curiosity is concerning what makes a direct proof preferable to such individuals. In the past, I've had professors grimace whenever I did an indirect proof and showed me that a direct proof was possible, but I never thought to ask them why a direct proof should be done instead. What's the point?

I just did a quick lookup and it suggested that the two flavors of indirect proof was contraposition and contradiction. What I'm about to say is criticizing contradiction, because contraposition seems fine to me.

Imagine you have a 1000 statement direct proof. Then every step along that way is provable. Maybe somebody reads your proof and realizes that an observation you made halfway through is exactly the idea they need to solve a problem they have. Mathematical history has many examples of lemmas that are more famous than the theorems they originally supported.

If it truly takes both hypotheses to get you to the result, then so be it. But I was rightfully dinged by my professors when I wrote a proof by contradiction that could easily be modified into a direct proof by contraposition. 006ab0faaa
