Below is my communication with Gemini.
My Prompt:
For today's academia, it seems that China is the only country which provide high salaries to researchers (in academia instead of industry), even higher than US. I think the reasons are 1. today's high-end tech is transfering to giant companies instead of university. Especially in the era of AI, which developed so much after OpenAI's first show three years ago, the pure theoretical research is more likely to be killed by AI and the huge, practical projects will grow faster with the help of AI. The market should turn to the latter. 2. China's universities are almost national, and the government wants to attract more scientists for development so they use a lots of subsidies without considering current market.
But as the local governments' debt growing while profit of every loan decreasing, it is hard for governments to remain the high subsidies. Also because the market environment, it is difficult to turn the science breakthrough into profitable product.
Do you think the analysis is reasonable? As a PhD students in western country, from China, is it better to do practical research aiming for industry instead of theoretical research aiming for academia?
