My “why” has evolved over the past few years, whereas I initially felt like my role as a change agent was like that of a planter since by profession, I was a school teacher. The seeds I planted were meant for the students I taught in my classroom, in my grade level, and at my school. Eventually, I would have influenced just their lives. Perhaps this was the reason that over time, I had felt rather unsettled.
Now I desire greater impact as a leader.
My purpose has taken the form of not only the planter, but I am also the seed. When I lead others to grow and achieve, I also grow and achieve as learning is reciprocal and cyclical.
Then, I also embody the whole tree, for it is the vehicle by which branches grow. In this case, I too am the branch because of the connections I make to so many others by way of my reach through my work with the community through active engagement and participation.
In fact, I believe that as a community we are all planters, seeds, trees, and branches. Each of these elements is one and the same (There are those who plant seeds which then produce trees, and the tree produces the branch).
No one role is greater than the other, yet each is diverse. Each role has equal access and is included in what contributes to the growth of a metaphorical healthy tree. It is my desire to impact others in this way as this is “heart work” for me.
I truly believe that I can change the world, one planter, one see, one branch, and one tree at a time.
