1. Overview
Shelf Wise ("the App") is an offline pantry and shopping list organizer built with a privacy-first approach. The App functions entirely on your device and does not require an account, log-in, or internet connection. We do not operate remote servers, show advertisements, or include third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or data harvesting tools. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share your personal data.
2. Information Collected and Stored On-Device
To provide its core features, Shelf Wise stores user-entered information locally on your device within the App's private SQLite database. This information includes:
• Item names, quantities, measurement units, categories, and storage locations
• Expiry dates, notes, and shopping list entries
• App settings and theme preferences
This data remains strictly on your device and is never uploaded or transmitted to us or any third party automatically. The App excludes its database from Android cloud backups and automated device transfers.
3. Android Permissions
Shelf Wise requests zero runtime Android permissions. It does not access your location, camera, contacts, microphone, device identifiers, or external media storage.
4. User-Directed Export and Restore
Shelf Wise provides a backup and restore feature using Android's native system file picker:
• Exporting Data: When you choose "Export backup", the App generates an unencrypted UTF-8 JSON file containing your pantry records, shopping list, and settings, and saves it to the location you specify.
• Destination Security: If you select a cloud storage provider or external service to store your exported file, that provider processes the file under its own privacy policy and security practices. We do not control third-party services.
• Restoring Data: Importing a backup file validates the JSON format and prompts for confirmation before overwriting local records.
Because exported JSON files are unencrypted, you should avoid including sensitive personal information in item names or notes and store exported files securely.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data remains in local storage as long as the App is installed on your device. You can modify or delete your data at any time by:
• Editing or deleting individual items within the App
• Selecting "Delete all local data" under Settings > Privacy
• Clearing the App's data in your Android device settings
• Uninstalling the App from your device
Deleting local data or uninstalling the App will erase all local database entries. Exported JSON files saved outside the App must be deleted manually from the destination where they were saved.
6. Children's Privacy
Shelf Wise does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App contains no age-restricted content, tracking algorithms, or external communication features.
7. Security
Local data is protected by standard Android app-isolation and private app storage mechanisms. However, no electronic storage method is completely secure against unauthorized access if a physical device is compromised. Security for exported backups depends on your chosen storage location and device security settings (such as screen locks and encryption).
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or developer practices. Any revised policy will be posted with an updated "Effective Date".
