We are committed to protecting your privacy
We, ShelfSwap, collect the minimum amount of information about you that is commensurate with providing you with a satisfactory service. This policy indicates the type of processes that may result in data being collected about you. Your use of our app gives us the right to collect that information.
Information Collected
We may collect any or all of the information that you give us depending on the type of transaction you enter into. The OAuth2 Google sign in collects your name, email address, and email profile picture. The other log-in method will collect email, password (encrypted and securely stored with third party Firebase), and a display name. We also will collect data related to your use of the app, which can include analytics and crash logging. These analytic systems may track the type of device you use, your screen resolution, and any error codes related to any crash you may encounter. Note that in general any information tied to a user will be stored in a third party database (Firebase). This includes chat messages, friends in the app, whether a user is online in the app, whether a user is typing in the app, and any other information a user may type in the app or images uploaded to the app, in general. There is also a small chance the app asks for your location permission; it has been seen in testing. This location is not used by the app in any capacity.
Information Use
We use the information collected to improve and personalize your user experience. For example, one third party, Goodreads, has the capability to view all books you have through the Goodreads export feature. Data collected in the US is held in accordance with the applicable data protection laws. All reasonable precautions are taken to prevent unauthorized access to this information. This safeguard may require you to provide additional identity verification should you wish to obtain information about your account details. Please note that our third-party service providers operate in the United States, so your data will be transferred from wherever you are to the US. By using our app, you consent to such a transfer.
Disclosing Information
We disclose some previously collected information to one third party, Firebase, which stores relevant information in their databases. We may also use the information to keep in contact with you and inform you of developments associated with us. If at any time in the future we should wish to disclose information collected on this app to any third party not listed on this policy, it would only be with your knowledge and consent.
We may from time to time provide information of a general nature to third parties, in our case Google Analytics. This tracks, for example, the number of individuals visiting our app or completing a registration form, but we will not use any information that could identify those individuals. If you wish to opt out of this data tracking, please contact us at libraryproject2024@gmail.com.
Changes to this Policy
Any changes to our Privacy Policy will be placed here and will supersede this version of our policy. We will take reasonable steps to draw your attention to any changes in our policy. However, to be on the safe side, we suggest that you read this document each time you use the app to ensure that it still meets with your approval.
Removal of your data
We retain user data for as long as necessary to provide you with a functioning app. You can delete your account, and all information tied to you, in the settings page with the "delete account" button, or by submitting a request to delete with our delete account form, found here. All associated personal data will be removed instantly if you used the account deletion inside the app, or it will be deleted within 14 days of your acceptance of the email verification if you used the delete account form. This deletion is permanent and cannot be undone; we do not retain any backups after deletion. Note that in some rare cases, we may retain certain data as required by law, such as for tax, legal disputes, or regulatory requirements (e.g., under applicable laws such as GDPR or CCPA).
