Breaking News & Traffic Anchor at KGO-TV ABC7

In elementary school, my parents bought me a children's video camera. I loved it! I would record my version of music videos and news stories, and host "premieres" for my family. Little did my parents know, they'd planted the first seed in my budding journalism career.

I got my first real experience in news writing for my high school newspaper, The Tiger Tales. My involvement in radio and television started in college. I went to Howard University in Washington, D.C. and still say choosing Howard was one of my best decisions to date. My professors were encouraging and helped me secure great internships with various networks and local television stations. During my junior year, I was honored with the White House Correspondents' Association Scholarship. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama presented me with the award. It was the highlight of my undergrad career- and possibly life, haha!

After graduation, I moved from Washington, D.C. to the eastern shore of Maryland to work for WMDT-TV. CULTURE SHOCK! I was reporting on chicken farms, crabbing, and NASCAR. It was a great experience and I did everything. I was a reporter, anchor, producer, photographer- and one day even served as a floor director because someone didn't show up.

I spent just under two years in Maryland before moving to Louisville, KY to work for WAVE-TV. I now have a love for the Kentucky Derby, hot chicken, and so many great people in the Bluegrass state.

I reported and anchored in Louisville for two years before moving to the Bay Area! I moved here for love and have fallen in love with this place as well. I'm a foodie and everything here is amazing, but I have one complaint....where is the southern food?! I'm from Atlanta, and this Georgia Peach is always looking for some good BBQ.

I'm so happy to be telling your stories on ABC7 Mornings and helping you get out the door from the Traffic Center. If you have a story idea please don't hesitate to send it my way to Jobina.N.Fortson@abc.com.

Nisha Palvia - Panelist

Analytics Manager

Kearney

I got accepted into Georgia Tech in 2007 and remember debating between majors: Economics, Biology and Industrial Engineering. After taking a few major specific courses and interning at various companies – Colgate Palmolive, UPS and The Home Depot, I decided that Industrial Engineering would best suit my strengths and interests. It was during these internships, I realized how much the world is impacted by supply chain and how the smallest deviation in data can lead to a host of issues downstream. I also loved the idea that changes I influenced could be seen firsthand in stores but a few months later, which was pretty rewarding.

I ended up joining the analytics practice at Kearney in 2012 and at the onset, tried to expose myself to as many different project topics as possible. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also excited about all the travel – one month I was working in the lush green mountains of Vermont and the other I was traveling to the hustle and bustle of London! On one particular project, my team was tasked to save $25 million in packaging costs by streamlining the supply chain of a global coffee retailer. Over the next four months, I spoke to everyone from manufacturing plant leads to c-level executives to identify and validate opportunities. My team surpassed savings targets but also changed the way the procurement team viewed its practice and reduced packaging waste by 15 percent. I have since worked on many sustainability-driven projects, with the aim of achieving a “win-win” for my clients: generating cost savings while positively contributing to their sustainability agenda.

In 2015, I went back to school, this time for my MBA + Masters in Supply Chain Management (from IE Business School and MIT, respectively.) Since graduating and doing an internship with L’Oréal, I dove back into the world of consulting and have taken a leadership role in one of our newest offerings: PERLab, Kearney’s premiere design and innovation lab.
