National Society of Black Engineers - Healthcare Innovation Special Interest Group

The mission of HISIG is "to promote the development and implementation of innovations that will improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injury, illness, and disease."

As Vice-President, I have focused on translating HISIG's mission into tangible impact within in the local community. We have organized a variety of events, ranging from discussions on healthcare disparities to programs designed to connect graduate students with funding resources. Each of these efforts have grounded in our C.A.R.E. strategy at the core (Connect, Advance, Recruit, Educate)

Breast Cancer Walk

We were able to raise over $200 towards Breast Cancer Awareness!

Dying to Deliver: A Maternal Mortality Panel

This panel brought together healthcare leaders, advocates, and innovators for an urgent conversation around the maternal health crisis and disparities that continue to affect Black women and other underserved communities. The program featured a moderated panel and audience discussion with experts in fields such as maternal-fetal medicine, maternal mental health, health equity research, reproductive justice, and postpartum care innovation.

Art Therapy Express

Art Therapy Express is a nonprofit organization that provides innovative, therapeutic arts programming through the state of Delaware. The organization's main mission is to "Foster an inclusive community that empowers through creative expression, education and inspiration."

I supported an inclusive arts program for individuals with intellectual and communication disabilities by assisting with creative activities, preparing materials, and helping maintain a safe, welcome studio environment. Helping the artists engage in art-making and expressing themselves with confidence was a rewarding and memorable experience.
