The girls’ wins was that much more impressive when you realize they won with only five swimmers and one diver. The girls truly showed their determination to compete this year in every event they swam/dove. The girls combined for 7 wins in 12 events. Senior Addi Weaver came up with her first ever individual victory at a very crucial time in the meet in the 100 Freestyle. That individual win proved to be pivotal in clinching both wins on the girls’ side. Freshmen Jordan Tobler followed her lead capturing a crucial second place finish in the 500 freestyle to cap off the point needed for the win.

The boys combined to win 6 of 11 events and finishing 2nd & 3rd in both the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays with split teams racing for HHC and Sectional spots. Sophomore Trey Carrell led the way tonight with 2 victories in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle. Trey looks to continue to build off his very successful Sophomore year, and the hard work that he put in this offseason. That work showed off today with two huge PR in the events listed prior. Senior Mitchell Compton won both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke in his much anticipated senior debut.

Last night the Golden Bears Swimming and Diving team got their first win of the season against Indian Creek. It was a clean sweep with the girls winning all 12 events. With the first meet jitters out the Golden Bears looked much more comfortable and confident in the pool against Indian Creek combining for 6 career PRs and 2 Golden Bear Top Ten performances. Juniors Marlee Rice and Karissa Hamilton led the way each improving their top ten times in the 100 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle respectively. Marlee also became the first girl this season to break 1 minute mark in the 100 Freestyle this season for the Bears, a sign of very good things to come. Diver Maiah Helfer-Vazquez was on form yet again, posting a 157.90, improving on her score from this time last season and matching her performance on Tuesday. Jordan Tobler kept the momentum going on a very strong start to her Freshman campaign with two more PRs, including a second straight PR in the 100 Freestyle. Freshman Miriam Garringer made her debut in the pool for SHS last night winning the 50 and 100 Freestyle setting the tone for what we hope to be a very bright HS career. The girls look to build off this momentum going against Whiteland HS on Tuesday at home for Senior Night.

The girls team fell this evening to both New Palestine and Lawrence Central High School. With 50% of our swimmers unable to swim we had quite the uphill battle to fight. Highlights for the evening included Karissa Hamilton’s 2nd fastest career swim in the 50 Freestyle just six hundredths of a second off her school record, Mahayana Lindsay posting a Shelbyville Golden Bear Top Ten performance in her debut diving performance with a score of 106.90, and Jordan Tobler’s career PR in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:07.90. The team will have a few more girls returning for their meet against Indian Creek tomorrow evening and look to continue to grow and get their first win of the season.
