Hi, I am Shekhar Kumar Yadav

I am a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar.

I am a lead researcher on a project titled 'Design and Implementation of Acoustic Beamforming Systems in Binaural Hearing Aids' funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The project aims to develop novel low-complexity binaural beamforming algorithms for battery operated binaural hearing aids that are power and hardware efficient.

About Me

I grew up in the charming small town of Dibrugarh in Assam, nestled in the scenic north-eastern region of India. During my formative years, my father, a distinguished Zoology professor at a state university, played a pivotal role in shaping my interests. Despite his academic background in the field of biology, he harboured a passion for home electrical networks.

Whenever a new gadget, be it a water geyser or washing machine, needed installation in our household, my father would personally handle the wiring and setup. Treating me as his eager apprentice, he would impart valuable lessons on the fundamentals of residential networks, including concepts like positive wiring, neutral wiring, grounding, and earthing. These experiences would kindle my interest in the fascinating world of physics, mathematics, and electrical engineering.

In due course, my educational journey led me to achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with first-class honours at one of India's most esteemed engineering institutions, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS-Pilani), Pilani Campus, in 2015.

My Interest in signal processing, communication systems and information theory peaked when I started working at Idea Cellular Limited after college. At this job, I realized I wanted to dedicate my whole life to the field of signal processing. After two years on the job, I applied for the Communication System (CS) postgraduate study at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat and received my Master of Technology degree in 2019. My master's thesis was in the field of compressive sensing. After my post-graduation, I wanted to pursue further research as a doctoral student.

I defended my PhD thesis on the 11th of December, 2023, at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar), Gandhinagar, India.  My research interests include multi-channel/array signal processing, source localization, speech enhancement, automatic speech recognition, acoustic dereverberation and beamforming.
