Dr. Zeeshan Sheikh. Dip.Dh, BDS, MSc, PhD, M.Perio, FRCDC
Dr. Zeeshan Sheikh is a Clinical Scientist in Periodontics, Assistant Professor-Tenure-Track in the departments of Applied Oral Sciences (AOS) and Dental Clinical Sciences (DCS) at the Faculty of Dentistry-Dalhousie University. He is also cross-appointed at the Faculty of Medicine, School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) and is a Scientific Affiliate at the Nova Scotia Health in Halifax, Canada. Dr. Sheikh is a Fellow of The Royal College of Dentists of Canada and also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology (ABP). He was trained as a dental clinician and a biomaterial scientist with clinical and research degrees of Dip.Dh, BDS, MSc, PhD and M.Perio in the fields of biomaterials research, clinical dentistry and surgical periodontics and implantology. He has more than 6 years of clinical experience in private and hospital-based dentistry. After graduating as a dentist, he worked as a dental surgeon for 2 years before proceeding to obtain an MSc degree in dental and biomaterials from Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) with distinction. He obtained a PhD from McGill University, Faculty of Dentistry (2010-2014). He completed 2 Post-Doctoral Fellowships at Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, The Mt. Sinai Hospital (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute) in Toronto, Canada and The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto (2015-2019). He completed his residency in Periodontics & Implant Surgery from Dalhousie University (2019-2022) and also obtained a Masters of Periodontics degree (M.Perio).
In addition to delivering several conference talks, presentations and CE courses both locally in Canada and internationally, Dr. Sheikh has several research publications, reviews, book chapters, case-reports and editorials in peer-reviewed and other journals. He has also co-edited three textbooks on Oral Biology and Dental Biomaterials. He is also the recipient of several research awards and prizes. Being trained extensively as a clinician scientist in institutions like the Baqai Medical University, Queen Mary University of London, McGill University, University of Toronto and Dalhousie University, his research expertise lies in developing novel biomaterial options for bone grafting and alveolar ridge augmentation applications. He has in the past and continues to collaborate extensively with industry and was recently the President of the CADR-NCOHR NSRG and was also the representative for Dalhousie University on the NCOHR communications committee. He is currently the Chair for the CADR NCOHR-Trainee Development Working Group and was in the past the chair of the Knowledge Exchange Working Group.
Dr. Zeeshan Sheikh’s career is an amalgamation of the skills acquired during the MSc, PhD, Post-Doctoral training and Periodontics Specialty Training to allow the carrying out of funded collaborative translational research. Dr. Sheikh aims to continue working as a clinician-scientist in the fields of Periodontics and Biomaterials and become a contributing member of the academic community in Canada.
Riyan Imtiaz Karamat is a 3rd Year medical student earning his MBBS degree from Rahbar Medical and Dental College, Lahore, Pakistan (World Directory of Medical Schools & ECFMG Certified). He has multiple clinical rotation experiences at clinic and hospital settings in both Pakistan and USA (Recently in Cardiology, Oklahoma City). Riyan has a long-term goal to be a physician-scientist.
He is involved in publishing basic science research at his medical school as well and is currently an overseas online research assistant/volunteer at the SheikhLab©.
Dr. Shariq Najeeb. BDS, MSc
Initially trained as a dentist, Dr. Najeeb completed his Masters in Dental Materials Science at the University of Sheffield in 2013. Since then, he has published 50 Scopus-indexed research articles, including 14 systematic reviews and several books. His research focus is evidence synthesis, systematic reviews and knowledge translation. He is particularly keen towards exploring the two-way relationship between oral and general health. He has been listed among the top 2% of scientists listed by Stanford University and his work has been cited by almost 2500 research articles. Dr. Najeeb is always eager to help and train other clinicians and aspiring researchers.

Dr. Andreea Raluca Arama BDS, Cert.Minor-Oral-Surgery
Dr Andreea Raluca Arama graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Romania, with a BDS in 2014. Upon qualification, she immediately entered private dental practice in Romania for several years, where she gained extensive experience in restorative dental procedures. She has spent a couple of years in Ireland providing general dental care, period in which she started post-graduation certifications across United Kingdom in renowned King’s College and in Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with training in minor oral surgery and periodontology. By attending conferences, educating herself at lectures to learn about the most modern techniques and treatments, and taking courses to provide complex treatments, Raluca is able to provide the best quality treatments for the patients under her care, for the best outcomes. She is also focusing her work in the field of research in soft tissue management, periodontal health and screening. Raluca stays at the top of her field through dedicated work as a practitioner, ongoing student, committed to continual personal growth and development through learning new techniques and advances in the field of implant dentistry as she is finalizing her certification in London. She is now working in Timisoara, Romania as a general dentist with a special interest in minor oral surgery , cosmetic dentistry and Invisalign provider.

Dr. Haider Al-Waeli BDS, M.Sc in Periodontics, J.Board in Periodontics, M.Perio, PhD, FRCDC
Dr Haider Al-Waeli is a certified periodontist, clinician scientist and an academician. His academic background and qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry and tow Master’s degree in Periodontics. Also, he received the Jordanian Board in Periodontics and holds a Ph.D. degree in Dentistry from McGill University in Canada. Dr Haider is a follow of the Royal college of Canada in Periodontics. Dr. Al-Waeli used to practice as a part-time periodontist, besides his full-time job as a university faculty member. He has an extensive academic career of more than 20 years, working in universities around the world; in Jordan at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), Malaysia at the International Medical University (IMU), and in Canada at McGill and Dalhousie Universities. Dr Al-Waeli is a member of many professional and academic associations around the world such as American Academy of Periodontology, Canadian Academy of Periodontology, European Federation of Periodontology, and International Association of Dental research. Dr Al-Waeli research interest include: experimental studies on chronotherapy and bone healing, artificial intelligence in diagnosis of periodontal diseases.

Dr. Umer Daood graduated from Baqai Dental College (BDS) Pakistan in 1999 subsequently embarking on a lineup of advanced post graduate qualifications. Dr. Umer Daood holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Oral Sciences and Biomaterials from the National University of Singapore as well as an MSc in Dental Materials from Queen Mary University of London. He obtained his PhD from Prince Philip Dental Hospital at the University of Hong Kong. He is currently enrolled in MSc Molecular Medicine and is a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College Surgeons (MFDS, RCS Glasgow) and holds a Certificate in Periodontology from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolich, London. Currently he is working as a Senior Lecturer, Head of Restorative Division, School of Dentistry, International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur and is also an Adjunct Faculty Asst. Dr. Ahsen Hussain MD FRCOphth

Dr Ahsen Hussain is an Associate Professor in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS. He provides care for adult and paediatric patients at the QEII and IWK hospital sites. He completed his medical school and ophthalmology training in the United Kingdom with a Joseph Ellis scholarship. During residency, he was awarded the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Ethicon and Dorey-Lister Awards for a research fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. After residency, he undertook a fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, UK followed by the two-year American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) fellowship in Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Hussain’s practice specializes in surgery of the orbit, eyelids, and lacrimal systems, with special interests in oncology, facial nerve palsy and lacrimal surgery. He has published numerous articles in the peer-reviewed literature and presented both nationally and internationally. In addition to helping train residents, he is one of the few full members of the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (CAFPRS). He is a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS) and European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS). He is on the executive board of the Canadian Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (CSOPS), and a candidate member of the American College of Surgeons.

Professor Dr. Jukka P. Matinlinna is a tenured professor in applied dental sciences at the University of Manchester, UK. He is the past division head at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), China. Professor Matinlinna was born and educated in Finland and joined HKU in 2008 where he worked 12 years. He is also an honorary professor at HKU, Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Saveetha Dental College & Hospitals, (Chennai, India), Honorary Correspondent Member of the Finnish Dental Society Apollonia, and moreover, associate professor (docent) in biomaterials science at the University of Turku, Finland. His team at HKU has launched two massive open online courses on dental and biomaterials. He is in e-learning indentistry, problem-based learning, biomaterials in prosthetic and implant dentistry, AI in dentistry, silane chemistry in dentistry, experimental primers and resins and E-glass fiber–reinforced dental materials. Professor Matinlinna’s h-index is today 51 with over 11,500 citations. Since 2004 he has contributed to over 240 peer-reviewed indexed publications, 39 professional journal publications, 30 book chapters, over 200 conference and symposium abstracts, and over 120 invited lectures. Professor Matinlinna has been acting as the guest editor, MSc and PhD student supervisor, external evaluator for grant applications, promotions and faculty reviews, contributor to massive open access online courses, and as a member of editorial boards of several dental journals. He is a frequently invited and keynote speaker at universities and international fora.
