OUR STORY...

SheBops & Dawn’s Recreational Place was born out of love, observation, and a deep desire to make a difference—starting right within our own family.

As a mother and daughter, we found ourselves watching our nieces and nephews, along with other children in our community, spend their time without direction, structure, or purpose. We saw potential in them—creativity, intelligence, gifts waiting to be discovered—but there was nothing in place to nurture it.

Instead of turning away, we leaned in.

Together, we decided to use what God had already placed inside of us.

I, Sheila Kitchens, founder of SheBops Entertainment and SheBops & Dawn’s Recreational Place, have always had a heart for bringing people together through creativity, storytelling, and community building. My daughter, Dawnesha Robinson, co-founder of the nonprofit, brings a beautiful balance of nurturing care, creativity, and organization. As a mother of three, she understands firsthand the importance of guidance, structure, and love in a child’s life. She is full of life—goofy, creative, and deeply connected to nature. She loves arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, and creating spaces where children feel safe, seen, and valued.

What started as concern turned into vision.

We realized that if children are given the opportunity to explore what they are naturally gifted in—whether it’s art, performance, leadership, or simply learning how to love and respect themselves—they will engage.

So we created a space where children can do just that.

A place where they are surrounded by positivity, structure, and encouragement. A place where they are taught life skills—hygiene, etiquette, self-love, respect, and moral principles that will guide them throughout their lives. A place where growth is recognized, effort is celebrated, and improvement is rewarded.

SheBops & Dawn’s Recreational Place is more than a program—it’s a nurturing environment designed to cultivate the hearts and minds of our youth.

Because we believe every child deserves the chance to grow, to be seen, and to become who they were created to be.
