Some key projects happening now
SEQ Draft Regional Plan Submissions
Councillor Howard's Outstanding Issues List - Here is our latest effort to get a response from our Local Councillor - To Central Ward Councillor November 2023
Spring Hill 2035 Vision Project - Read the full project outline and make contact if you would like to know more. We are currently working on the first 'chapter' - which covers futures planning from Local to City to Regional to State to Commonwealth in relation to our suburb. Our Neighbourhood Plan continues to be ignored by BCC and they have removed it from their web site. That's how you get the job done - out of sight out of mind.
Inner Sparks - Ideas for our Future: Spring Hill Community Group has submitted 10 'inner spark' ideas to BCC for improving the operatioin of urban planning and development in our suburb and across Brisbane. See a listing of ideas along with details of each one.
BCC has chosen not to progress any of these 'inner sparks'.
St.Joseph's Gregory Terrace College - Media reports indicate that the College has purchased the former Salvation Army site at 28 Quarry Street. See map of new location. Also see property report on this new site. This purchase may be the reaon we have not heard anything about the School's modified MID Project. Our last submission is at this link - UPDATED SHCG SUMISSION. The Queensland Government has torn up the rule book for MID approvals and we are reviewing our options.
Lilley Street/Wickham Terrace - See DA site, See copy of recent objection, See copy of recent approach to BCC
487 Boundary Street - The development of this site has been approved and it is now for sale. We have asked for the State or the BCC to purchase back the site. Buy Back Request. The old DA No: A004892414.[enter this number when you arrive at this link] Also the attached article gives a good insight into what is at stake. We now have this response from BCC's Deputy Lord Mayor [Sept 2022]. The site has been sold and we await the next move.
525 Boundary Street - This project has now been approved and construction is proceeding. The lack of recognition of 'transition' requirements between high rise building and the historical homes in Spring Hill is well illustrated with this project. - DA No:A005603157 [enter this number when you arrive at this link].
447 Gregory Terrace - This developer is planning to squeeze 2x 15 storey buildings into the one project ruining the residential future of adjoining apartments, overlooking a children's education and care centre and completely over imposing on a heritage building. A triple dividend if you were trying to take the essence of spring hill out of Spring Hill. DA. No: A005608964.[enter this number when you arrive at this link] The development now comprises only one tower and construction work has stalled.
24 Hartley Street - Development approved - who really cares about transition provisions? This proposed hotel will stand-over ordinary Spring Hill cottages and cause our residents to wonder what the Neighbourhood Plans provisions are really for? DA.No: A005267629
157 Leichhardt Street - We have made a submission on this proposed 'code' assessable development for a 25 storey apartment block. There are no formal appeal opportunities for 'code' assessments but we have endeavoured to support the BCC's assessment officer who is seeking to gain a 'reasonable' proposal from the developer. NOTE - the assessment officers concerns all dissipated and the development has now been approved.
United Service Club - The United Service Club has provided us with a comprehensive update [LINK] in regard to the mooted development of their property. Please let me know any thoughts or ideas you may have in regard to this information. We thank the Club for their willingness to share this with the community prior to finalisation of the details.
440 Upper Edward Street - We have just become aware of this project. The proposal sets out a 10 storey building with one residential unit per floor. We believe it is a very inadequate proposal which is out of step with the neighbourhood plan. SHCG Submission LINK
36 Warry Street - We have made a submission to BCC on this project. SHCG Submission LINK. This development is now approved.
200 Turbot Street - We have made a submission on this project specifically in regard to the proposal to remove multiple trees from the parklands surrounding this project development. Objection to Vegetation Management Plan; Flyer and Removal Map. Developer appears to be cooling heels before it starts knocking down trees.
Train Noise at Roma Street Parklands - The residents of Roma Street Parkland Apartments have been dealing with excessive train noise for over 15 years. The noise levels are well above the guidelines of the World Health Organisation and national health institutions and have been shown to have a negative impact on residents' health and quality of life.
Roma Street Parklands - This project involves the major development of lands at and over Roma Street Railway Station as well as adjoining lands. The project has now been approved. See the improvements made to this plan as a result of the community feedback on this plan. SUMMARY OF CHANGES. See our Community Group's origingal request for changes. SHCG REQUEST for CHANGE - Conjecture about Brisbane LIVE development - no other apparent signs of development.
Victoria Park- Read our latest submission to the State Minister for Resources in relation to the Barrambin/Victoria Park Master Plan.
New Master Plan now published. [JUNE 2023]
ePetition Proposal for Green Infrastructure Pilot Project for Spring Hill -This is the petition format that enables our full GI proposal to be formally reviewed by BCC Council, BCC Administration and BCC Committees. Our submission was submitted on 6 July and we can expect an assessment within 3 days as to whether it is approved. BCC has responded and it is progressing in minute measures..
Leichhardt Street Rumour has it that State Government maybe endeavouring to purchase 12 storey building being refurbished in Leichardt Street - opposite Oxygen Apartments.
185 Wharf Street: Approval is anticipated in the next few weeks. It appears that there is not even any need now to justify full residential in the Principal Centre Zo
Some previous key projects
Spring Hill Revitalisation Petition - Some time ago now, a few of our residents got to together in an endeavour to improve a range of important health, safety and environmental issues around our suburb. BCC has provided very limited support for this petition. We are 'up-ing the ante now', with our Vision project as set out above. The vision project is an effort to try to engage in a mature discussion with all levels of government to support our shared future.
+ 3 Degrees - Read how you might be able to contribute to reducing the impact of climate change. And also, see what the BCC's latest Carbon Account looks like - and reflect on what value you gain from the BCC's very significant investments in carbon credits - which credist are being purchased from as far away as India and China?
Referral to the State Ombudsman - This is about the inadequate nature of BCC dealings with development objections and objectors. The planning process is treating residents like a 'poor relation' when it comes to engaging with authorities about proposed developments. The Ombudsman saw insufficient grounds to take any further action on this matter. Our vision project is aiming to seek improvements in community engagement and consutation in the planning process.
