Did you know South Hero has a wonderful museum filled with South Hero history? It's called the South Hero Bicentennial Museum. We are open Wednesdays from 10 am - 1 Pm and Saturdays, 10 am - 1 pm. Our museum is located at 317, Route 2 - two doors down to the right from the Kinney's Insurance building which is next to the bank. The museum is across from The Blue Paddle. You will need to park in front right on Route 2. Our mailing address is Box 180, South Hero, Vt, 05486.
You might see some interesting artifacts from over 100 years ago. Things that are unique to South Hero like the TURNOUT sign that was used on the sandbar bridge when the bridge was so narrow that only one wagon or car could fit at a time.
You can also see some old machines that were used in the old bean factory and corn factory that were located on Tracy Rd near the Crick.
Our research library contains binders where you can find historical background of the Sandbar, Island Families, Sites and Structures, Photo Albums, etc. We have Oral Histories, DVDs, Memoires, and much more. You just might learn something that you didn't know but now you cherish and appreciate about South Hero! Hope to see you there! Thank you from the SHBM Team

We were very excited to have Jim Holzschuh from Grand Isle Art Works demonstrate for us how to use the ancient yarn winders and yarn spinners we have downstairs in the South Hero History Museum on Rt. 2 across from the Blue Paddle. Thank you, Jim. We look forward to spinning all kinds of yarns in the future!
We would also like to thank Jon Quackenbush of Pest Pro for treatments this week to help make our building more comfortable. Also, thank you to Jim Falby for bush trimming and weed pulling, Janine Bellinghiri for flower beautification, Jim Bellinghiri for weed wacking and sidewalk weeding, Jon Wells for mowing the lawn. Wow! So much kindheartedness; we feel blessed.
Did you notice the Veterans memorial in front of the museum had been tilting and now is upright? Thank you to Jeff Kuhn of Kuhn Memorials for helping us show proper respect for our past servicemen and women.
Not to forget some wonderful recent volunteer guides--Pam Supernaut and Colleen Bushway who have been so supportive and giving of their time. I think you'll agree the South Hero Community makes South Hero a wonderful place to live and visit.
