Dr. George Shaw, Jr. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at UNC Charlotte in the College of Health and Human Services. Research

Various forms of digital spaces are integrated into the infrastructure of our society as it relates to communication, collaborative work, and forming communities. Dr. Shaw’s research focuses on the intersection of data science, social media, and public health. His work is significant with pattern recognition in unstructured data sources to discover hidden information and applications of various data mining techniques to inform health interventions and/or policies.

Teaching

Dr. Shaw’s teaching involves creating life-long learners and fostering a passion for curiosity. He believes learning should involve a mastery of concepts, understanding of critical theories that explain certain information behaviors, systems and their impact on society.
