Shave the Peak was started by Lauren Maunus, Harry August, and Kai Salem after they took an environmental policy class with Rhode Island environmental law genius Caroline Karp. After researching New England's energy grid, they concluded that New England policymakers had not fully explored information-based ways to reduce the costs and emissions our electricity use. While Lauren, Harry, and Kai support a more fundamental restructuring of our energy system, including carbon pricing and time variable rates, they believe that public awareness and voluntary peak demand reductions are a simple and effective way to reduce costs and emissions in the mean time.
