I create songs out of popular children's books using the words as the lyrics, and show the pages as I play the song so that students can sing or read along. Normally performed live in in the classroom.
Green Eggs and Ham
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
There's a Wocket in my Pocket!
On Fridays, I will take a popular song from the radio, learn it, and rewrite the lyrics.
Aptly named "Friday Songs", they are about Fridays, the weekend, how those things mean no school, and how excited we are to not have school until Monday. They are a tool used to teach and reinforce proper audience behavior most Fridays, as part of a larger event some Fridays, and a celebration of the upcoming time off all Fridays, and any day before breaks.
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town", the day before Winter Break
"Let It Be", the day before Thanksgiving Break
I always write the final Friday Song of the school year completely from scratch to reflect on the year and the students.
This one was written for the end of the 2019-2020 school year, which was completed virtually due to Covid-19.
