Sharon Walsh
Health and Social Care Economist
I am an Assistant Professor in Economics at the University of Galway. As a health and social care economist, my research is focused on ageing-related policies and interventions.
Prior to joining the Discipline of Economics as a permanent member of staff, I was employed as a fixed-term lecturer. I also held postdoctoral research positions at the Centre for Economic and Social Research on Dementia (CESRD) and the Heath Economic and Policy Analysis Centre (HEPAC) at University of Galway. I completed a PhD in Economics at University of Galway in 2017. Prior to my PhD studies, I worked in the Economic and Social Research Institute, University of Limerick and University College Cork.
As a health and social care economist, I study key economic issues of finance, provision, and access as they relate to specific ageing-related policies and interventions. I am currently involved in a number of research projects in the areas of long-term care, dementia and multimorbidity.
At the undergraduate level, I teach courses in Intermediate Microeconomics and Principles of Macroeconomics. At the postgraduate level, my courses are related to health policy and research methods.
