Shark Log is committed to providing a "local-first" experience. We believe your fishing data is your business. This policy explains how we handle your information through our weather, mapping, and payment features.
Shark Log does not collect, store, or transmit your fishing logs, notes, or personal information to our own servers.
Local Storage: All catch records (including species, measurements, bait, and notes) are stored strictly on your device's internal storage.
User Control: You have full control over your data. You may edit or delete individual records, or use the "Delete All Logs" feature in the settings to permanently erase your entire library from the device.
Backups: If you use the manual "Export" feature, the app generates a file (JSON or CSV) on your device. You are responsible for the security of these exported files.
The app requires access to your device’s precise GPS location to provide the "Autofill Data" and "Catch Heatmap" features.
Retrieval: When you tap "Autofill," your coordinates are sent anonymously to retrieve local weather and tide conditions.
Storage: If you save a log entry, the GPS coordinates are saved locally on your device as part of that specific fishing record. These coordinates are used to plot your "Catch Heatmap."
Data Retention: Location data remains on your device until you manually delete the specific log entry or use the "Delete All Logs" feature.
No Tracking: We do not track your location in the background or monitor your movements. Location access is only used when the app is open and you explicitly request a feature.
To provide high-quality data without subscription fees, Shark Log integrates with the following services:
Weather & Tides: We share anonymous coordinates with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to retrieve local environmental conditions.
Mapping: The "Catch Heatmap" fetches satellite and topographic imagery from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and OpenStreetMap (OSM) mirrors.
Anonymity: No personal identifiers (names, emails, or device IDs) are shared with these services. Requests are sent with a generic User-Agent to identify the app as "Shark Log."
Shark Log offers an optional Premium upgrade.
Payment Processing: All purchases are handled securely through Google Play Billing.
No Financial Access: The developer does not have access to, nor do we store, your credit card numbers, bank account details, or billing address.
Purchase History: We only receive a digital receipt from Google to verify your "Premium" status and unlock unlimited logging and advanced analytics.
If you use the "Provide App Feedback" feature:
The app will open your default email client to send a message to the developer.
A small block of technical metadata (App version, OS version, and unit preferences) is included to help us troubleshoot bugs. Your fishing logs and location history are never included in these emails.
Shark Log does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since all data is stored locally on the user's device and not on our servers, we do not have a way to identify or monitor the age of our users.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.
We believe in your right to control your data. You may delete your Shark Log account and all associated data at any time.
How to Delete Your Account: You can delete your account directly within the Shark Log app. Navigate to Export & Settings > Danger Zone and select "Delete My Account." This process is permanent and will immediately erase:
Your user profile and authentication credentials from our servers.
All fishing logs, GPS coordinates, and personal data stored on your local device.
Manual Deletion Requests: If you are unable to access the app, you may request account deletion by emailing us at SharkLog.support@gmail.com with the subject "Account Deletion Request." We will process your request within 48 hours.
Data Retention: Once an account is deleted, we do not retain any of your personal fishing data or logs. Some technical logs related to security and billing (via Google Play) may be retained for a limited period as required by law or for fraud prevention.
Effective Date: July 16, 2026
By downloading or using the Shark Log application (“the App”), these terms will automatically apply to you. You should make sure that you read them carefully before using the App.
Shark Log is a tool designed to help users record and analyze shark fishing data. The App provides features including, but not limited to, data logging, weather retrieval via NOAA, mapping via USGS/OSM, and success-trend analytics.
One-Time Upgrade: Shark Log offers a "Premium" status for a one-time fee of $4.99 USD. This upgrade removes logging limits and unlocks advanced analytics.
Billing: All financial transactions are processed through the Google Play Store. Your purchase is subject to Google’s terms and conditions.
Refunds: Since the developer does not handle payments directly, all refund requests must be processed through Google Play support.
Persistence: Your Premium status is linked to your Google Account. If you switch devices or reinstall the App, use the "Restore" or "Sync" function to reactivate your features.
Local Storage: Shark Log is a "local-first" App. Your data is stored on your device, not on our servers. If you delete the App or lose your device without having a manual backup (.JSON or .CSV), your logs cannot be recovered by the developer.
Backups: You are responsible for using the "Export" feature to maintain your own records.
Legal Compliance: You agree to use this App only for lawful purposes. You are strictly responsible for following all local, state, and federal fishing regulations, including size limits, bag limits, and protected species laws.
Physical Risk: Fishing for sharks involves inherent risks, including physical injury or death. This App is a data-logging tool and does not provide safety instructions for the handling of marine life. The developer is not responsible for any injury sustained while fishing or interacting with wildlife.
Weather Reliance: Weather, tide, and lunar data provided by the App (via NOAA/USGS) are for informational purposes only. Environmental conditions can change rapidly. Never rely solely on the App for navigation or safety decisions in offshore or dangerous environments.
The App utilizes third-party APIs (including NOAA and USGS) to provide weather and mapping data. We do not guarantee the 100% uptime or accuracy of these third-party services. Usage of these features requires an active internet connection.
You agree not to:
Attempt to reverse engineer, de-compile, or extract the source code of the App.
Use the App to log or facilitate illegal fishing activities.
Use any automated system (bots, scrapers) to access the App’s services.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer of Shark Log shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from:
Your use or inability to use the App.
Any inaccuracies in weather, tide, or mapping data.
The loss of your local fishing logs.
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Your continued use of the App following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms of Service.
