Im on the same version I reinstalled it to make sure and even though you cant update your drivers on the free edition you can still scan and see your outdated drivers along with the updated driver version the CCleaner has. I attached a screenshot with proof.

I do note though that yours is not showing the red symbol with the number of updates found.

Which again would seem to indicate an older itteration of Driver Updater.

I also notice that you have the large upgrade arrow showing below Options while I don't.

Sorry I didnt notice the typo I meant to say that Im able to scan for outdated drivers on the free version but just not install the drivers I scanned for. I havent ever messed around with my registries and last time I reset my pc was almost two years ago.

Well I'm not talking about the portable version , I redownloaded/installed the standalone version CCleaner from multiple times now along with each reply. The driver updater tab still offers me to scan for outdated drivers but doesn't let me install them. I just don't see the point of having the driver updater when some of the "updated drivers" you have available are older than the current driver versions that shows in my device manager properties that you can see from my earlier replies.

CCleaner has a monthly release cycle to keep up to date with changes in where operating systems, browsers, etc store their temp files. Some of our users may have very good reasons not prefer not to be updated every month and prefer to manually update less frequently and at a time of their choosing. That's great for us if some people do that - saves us money. But once you get to 3-6 months out of date you're bound to start seeing some performance degradation. Getting as far as 12 months out of date with any software and you've probably got yourself a security issue.

Note that if the older version you installed was CCleaner 5.x then yes you have prevented any updates with those steps. Although a) if you're on CCleaner 5.88 or below, you'll need to be using a third party source of cleaning rules such as winapp2 for it to keep functioning and b) given that CCleaner 5.x has been End of Lifed, you may start to see some unhandled errors and bits of the infrastructure get switched off.

Yet somehow, you were able to CIRCUMVENT Windows Firewall, and run something on my system, without my awareness or permission, to update the copy of the program that I SPECIFICALLY WANTED to be on my system.

Users such as myself who understand what "User" means have enough problems constantly fighting with software providers who have this "software as a service" mentality who want to take control away from the user, including WINDOWS ITSELF, to the point of having to spend HOURS to DAYS changing and modifying the operating system to make sure that it NEVER does anything the USER does not want it to without the user's knowledge or consent.

Because Piriform somehow CIRCUMVENTED Windows Firewall and run something without any knowledge or awareness from the user, I would classify this software as a MAJOR SECURITY RISK from this point forward. I will have to find something else to use.

The only thing I can *think* of, is that there is a "CCleaner Update" task in Task Scheduler that is set to run "at system startup", and I *may* have left this enabled... so perhaps Windows Firewall rules don't take effect until *after* scheduled tasks run that are set to run "at system startup". I did have another computer where I had the same executables blocked for both Inbound and Outbound in Windows Firewall, **and** the above mentioned Task Scheduler rule disabled. When I restarted that computer, the CCleaner auto update didn't happen. But, I can't be certain that this is what happened on the first computer, since it's now too late as CCleaner updated without permission, without prompting, and without informing.

Software must NEVER update itself without the user's consent, for security reasons. Any fully automatic updates that I haven't priorly approved, I would consider NOT secure, regardless of your impending endless explanation why I should consider it secure anyway. You cannot convince me.

In addition, remember to delete or disable the CCleaner update task in Windows Task Scheduler. Check out how AskVG at -disable-automatic-updates-for-software-versions-in-ccleaner/ or Bleeping Computer at -disregarding-settings-and-forcing-update-to-latest-546-version/. I searched "CCleaner forces update" on DuckDuckGo.

I actually deleted CCleaner 5.65 because of this. I am using cleanmgr.exe in Win 7 Pro and run as Administrator. I also use the cleaner under my paid Norton360 subscription. Do NOT use 'free' security software. Do NOT save logins/passwords. Only allow auto updates on your PAID security software. Important, stay away from Google and MS where possible. In private browsing with Firefox (I use an older version,) or a browser window with auto history, cookie, and tracker cleaning. Oh, and use an Ad blocker of some sort. Equals happy computing.

Yes - 3 machines with Win10 also crashing when running initial scan. TeamViewer seems to be causing problems with CCleaner. This has been going on with the past few versions of CCleaner - At first CCleaner required TeamViewer to be closed before it would finish the scan or clean. That's a little difficult to do when working remotely.

To confirm, there is an issue with CCleaner 6.11.10435 specifically relating to running cleans on TeamViewer, which (as per @NE0) can be temporarily worked-around (until we release a fix) for impacted TeamViewer users by unchecking TeamViewer under Custom Clean > Applications > Utilities:

This impacts all Windows versions, but the code in question is specific to TeamViewer cleaning. It does not appear that any other cleaning rules are impacted and does not impact computers that do not have TeamViewer running. The developers are currently working on a fix. TBD at this point if a fix will be issued with the CCleaner 6.12 May release or in an earlier patch.

______________________ A bugfix was released for this today in 6.11.10455 (same version number, different build number, as we usually do for bugfix releases). If you are still on the previous 6.11.10435 build, your copy should automatically update within the next 24-48 hours, or you can click "check for updates" to force an update earlier.

I'm a long time user of the free version of CCleaner with no issues in using it or upgrading it as new versions come out. When I tried to update to the most recent two versions (5.34 and 5.35), I got an error message "Error opening file for writing" "C:\Program files\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe". I tried removing the program and re downloading it and I've since updated to the Professional version and downloaded it, but I continue to get the same error message. Thanks for any help.

That said, many people have had this difficulty lately. Are you saying that with ccleaner uninstalled you are still getting the cannot overwrite error? If you navigate to c:\program Files\ccleaner (or where your ccleaner is if you customized the install path) and confirm there are no files in there.

Exact same problem here. Unable to install CC version 535 due to "error opening file for writing". Running Windows 10. Tried to install as administrator but same problem; installation fails every time. This only happened after uninstalling the previous version that was infected with malware.

Since you're a paid user, don't forget you can get priority support from the developers. That said, many people have had this difficulty lately. What you posted here resolved my version 535 installation difficulties. I had in fact uninstalled the CCleaner previous version using the windows uninstaller, however I found there were was still a CCleaner folder in Program Files. The files contained in the folder were somehow locked and could not be manually deleted even with Admin account. I had to download Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove these files and registry entries. Once those locked files were deleted, I was able to install CCleaner version 535 installed without any problems. Thanks!

Hitting Ignore through this file and at least 20 finishes with 5.35 is installed and the check box for starting it is checked. However, nothing opens. When searching the computer, CCleaner is not installed anywhere. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've uninstalled the prior version and deleted all previous CCleaner folders and exe versions. I even deleted the new exe setup and redownloaded it. However I am getting the exact same error. I am running it as Administrator. The setup does not ask me where I want to install it so I can't change the 0 folder to another folder like someone suggested above. What else can I try? It seems several people are having this problem so it has to have a fix somewhere.

uninstall your current version first.

then go into the Program Files folder for CC and delete its contents (keep the .ini file if you have customised settings).

 download the latest build from here;

 reboot the PC

install CC from your downloaded file.

if no luck, try the install with the PC in Safe Mode (as @hazelnut suggested). and also try the other builds, like Slim or Portable.

Hey @Kamrul Hassan let me give you some information on your question.

I can only go by what exactly I know and I've been using the free version for a very long time and I just (this week) decided to buy the Pro Version. Now back when I had been using the free version though I realized that I couldn't set up any of the scheduled scans and go into and edit any of the advanced features that the program offered. So in this way you do end up benefiting and with that said the pro version is much more beneficial than that of the free version. Here is a link to the differences. That's my two cents 5376163bf9
