Privacy Policy for ShareViaLAN

ShareViaLAN is a local network file-sharing and communication application. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app may access, how it is used, and how user data is handled.

1. Information We Access

ShareViaLAN may access the following information on your device:

- Files and media selected by you for sending or receiving

- Device name or user-defined device name

- Local network information such as local IP address

- Nearby devices available on the same Wi-Fi or LAN network

- Chat messages sent between connected devices

- Notification access needed to show file/message alerts

- Storage access needed to save received files

2. How We Use This Information

The information is used only to provide app functionality, including:

- Discovering nearby devices on the same local network

- Sending and receiving files

- Sending and receiving local chat messages

- Saving received files to your device

- Showing notifications for incoming messages or transfers

- Connecting Android, Windows, and Linux devices on the same network

3. Local Network Communication

ShareViaLAN is designed to work over your local network. Files and messages are transferred directly between devices connected to the same Wi-Fi/LAN network.

ShareViaLAN does not require cloud servers for normal file transfer or chat functionality.

4. Data Collection

ShareViaLAN does not intentionally collect personal data on external servers.

The app does not sell user data.

The app does not use user files, messages, or transferred media for advertising.

5. File and Message Handling

Files and messages are transferred between devices selected by the user.

Received files are saved locally on the receiving device.

Users are responsible for the files they choose to send, receive, open, or store.

6. Permissions

ShareViaLAN may request permissions such as storage, media access, notifications, nearby network access, and local network access. These permissions are used only for app functionality.

Examples:

- Storage/media permission: to select and save files

- Notification permission: to show incoming message/file alerts

- Network permission: to discover and connect to devices on the same LAN

7. Third-Party Services

ShareViaLAN may provide links to GitHub or release pages for downloading desktop versions of the app.

Opening external links may be handled by your browser or GitHub, which have their own privacy policies.

8. Security

ShareViaLAN transfers data over the local network between selected devices. Users should only connect with trusted devices on trusted networks.

Do not accept files or connections from unknown or untrusted devices.

9. Children’s Privacy

ShareViaLAN is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app works locally, parents or guardians should supervise file sharing where necessary.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Updates will be reflected by changing the effective date at the top of this policy.
