This is my trip diary about my Erasmus adventure in Edenkoben (Germany).
(Este es mi diario de viaje sobre mi aventura Erasmus en Edenkoben (Alemania))
I arrived at the airport at 5:30 a.m. I spent 3 hours there, and then my airplane landed. We
had to wait quite a lot until we could get into the plane, but finally we did it. I really enjoyed
when the plane started to fly, because the feeling of leaving the ground is pretty cool and
exciting. Besides, it was my first time on a flight, so that is the main reason why I was so
excited. When we landed in Germany, everything was really different : The weather was
really cold, and not only that, but also the buildings, because to me they looked like they
were built to be colder. Another thing was the people’s behavior, which was not as warm as
Spanish people. We met up with our exchanges and they took us to their houses.
Something I learned while driving to my exchange’s house was that there are no speed limits
on the road. Another thing that impressed me was the shape of the houses, that are very
nordic and with triangle roofs. When we arrived they showed me the house and my room,
and they left me time to install myself there. We ate and after that, my exchange gave me a
tour of her town. The last thing I did was having dinner at 6 p.m and finally going to rest for
the next day.
The second day was the day I went to school for the first time. The first two hours a teacher
gave us a tour around the school and told us what each class was for. After that we ate and
then they took us to the classes of natural sciences and english. We spent like 3 hours there
and the rest of the day I was with my exchange. Once the day finished, we went back to the
house, we ate and I did some homework. By the afternoon, his father took me for a ride in
his motorcycle and we drove around many towns in the region. When we got back to the
house we had dinner and talked for a while. And that was all for this day.
First, I saw a theater play, then had normal classes and after that I went on a trip to Rhodt.
We went there with the van of the teacher, and when we arrived, we had to walk the rest of
the way on foot. We walked until we got in a chairlift, where we did the rest of the way to the
hill. We saw many animals and fed them. We also ate in a local establishment, and when we
finished, we went down again. In the house I rested a while, and her family told me that they
could take me to a theme park, and I agreed to, so we went there. The park wasn’t the
biggest, but indeed, it was bigger than any other in my region. In the park there was even a
big wheel where I rode with her and her family. After that we ate, and then she presented to
me many of her friends and people she knows. It was really cool because I could talk with
almost everyone, and I could even go to the shops and ask for food, for she explained to me
that it is quite common that in Germany most of the people speak english. So far, the trip to
Germany it’s been very funny and incredible.
This morning we went to a traditional festival of Venningen (the town of my exchange),
where a big tree was raised by many men and women sang typical songs, and there was
food and drinks as well. After that we went to a kind of park, where there were animals and
attractions, such as a big water slide, a carousel whose chairs were hanging from it and a
small roller coaster. We ate there and then we rode in many of the attractions. There was
also a bird show, where there were eagles, owls, falcons and many other sorts of birds. After
the show was finished we returned to the house and we ate in the backyard.
As always I attended my daily classes and when I finished them, we went on a trip to a
castle in this region. The castle was quite high, we had to go with the car through a few
mountains, and when we got out of the car, we had to climb another mountain to get to the
castle. On the way there were many cartons representing kings and knights and the castle
and the mountains were surrounded by woods. The castle was of red brick, and there was a
beautiful sight, where we could see the rest of the mountains and other castles, but smaller.
Indoors, regardless of the darkness, the castle was pretty beautiful. There was a huge hall,
spiral staircases and a room with replicas of royal jewels. After Completing the tour in the
castle, we went to a beautiful town, where there were traditional houses.
Today, in the afternoon, we went to a town called Landau, which is very big. The first thing
we did was take a walk around the town. It was really big, especially the center, where there
were many shops and other interesting things. Also, there was a zoo and a lot of historical
buildings. Then we drove to the town of a cousin of hers, where there were many beautiful
houses. And finally we went to a festival in another town, where we spent 4 hours until
night.
Today there wasn’t school, so I mostly rested. In the afternoon, we drove to a stadium, where a handball match was held. There were many people, and the place was very crowded, which gave us problems to enter there. Before starting the match, we could see the players training, and after that, it finally began. Our team did it great, but in the end it lost.
No matter what the result was, because that night I had so much fun and could do something I didn’t before.
Today I haven’t done much cause I was tired from last night, I spent most of the day resting and doing some homework. The only things a bit different that I have done are that I went to McDonald’s, where almost everything was technological. Even to ask for food you have to do it on a screen. I have to say that the food wasn’t so memorable. And the other thing is that we spent the evening watching movies, to finally go to sleep after that.
This day was pretty long because I had classes until 17:00. I watched a movie and in the last hour I had sports (physical education). Then I got back to the house, and shortly after, I went on a tour in a wine factory. The tour was carried out by a friend of the family of my exchange, who explained to me how the wine is made, from the fermentation to the bottling. He even let us taste the wine of the winery. Then, we took a walk around the town where the factory was located, which was very beautiful and traditional. We returned to the house, we ate and watched a movie.
As everyday I went to school, but after the first lesson I went on a trip to a city called Speyer. The first thing we saw in that city was the Technological Museum, where there were a lot of things, such as old cars, planes, old planes, ships, war submarines and more of that sort of thing. We could even get into some of the planes and the ships, which were very big, and there was also a big slide falling from one of the planes, which I used twice. After finishing the tour, we went to a souvenir shop in the museum, where I didn’t buy anything, for everything was extremely expensive. Then we left the museum to go to the city center, where first we entered a church, that was huge. Finally the teachers left us free time and we could see the city center, where there were many shops and monuments.
It was the last day of school. The day was normal except for a class called performing acts,
where I had much fun. The class consisted in imitating the behavior of 2 different
people : a confident and a shy person. We were separated into 2 groups : the first one had
to act as a confident person and the second one as a shy person. The school day finished
sooner than usual, and because the following days there weren't any classes, we went to
a city called Mannheim. It was very big, with many things to do. First of all we visited
Wasserturm Mannheim, a water tower, and after that we walked around the city, bought
things and ate.
This was most likely to be my favorite day. In the morning I was taken to the aerodrome to
ride in an airplane. The spot was in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by woods, but
with much space for the planes could take off. When I got there, a woman, who was my pilot,
explained to me all the things I had to know and what I would have to do in case of an
emergency. Done the explanation, she gave me the parachute and I entered the plane. The
flight was definitely amazing, for I could see the entire region from the plane and we did
many funny things with it. Landed, we rested for a while in the same place and played some
games. By the afternoon, after eating, I went to a father’s day party, where I met many of the
friends of the family of my exchange. The party lasted 2 hours, and just after that, we went to
a wine festival in Landau, where I met up with the friends of my exchange.
We went to a city to play mini golf with the other exchange students and with the teachers. The place
was big but dark and we tried every game there. I didn’t win, but I had a lot of fun
there. In the afternoon, I went for a walk around the town, and I passed by the church, which
was quite beautiful. In the evening, I went to another wine festival, where I met up again with my
partner's friends and I said goodbye to many people that I met while in Germany.
Today was the last day. In the morning, I accompanied my exchange’s mother to the
supermarket to buy the food for today and when I returned to the house I started packing. I
watched a movie after finishing and I ate. Then I had to leave the house and I said goodbye
to everyone. I arrived at the school, where the teachers were waiting for us to take us to
Frankfurt. We said goodbye and we left. The journey to the airport was smooth and so was
the boarding. We landed in Spain at 22:20, and we finally went to our houses.
