ShareMate is committed to protecting your personal and expense data at all times. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Account Data: Name, email address, username, and secure sign-in credentials.
Expense Data: Expense titles, amounts, split details, categories, notes, and transaction dates.
Group & Friends Data: Group memberships, friend requests, and linked user identifiers.
Technical Data: Basic device diagnostics and app usage information for stability, troubleshooting, and support.

How We Use Your Information

To calculate and display accurate balances and split records between you and your friends.
To keep your user account secure and authenticated.
To synchronize your transaction history across all your signed-in devices.
To analyze app performance, fix errors, and improve the overall user experience.
To provide developer support and respond to user account or deletion requests.

Cloud Services & Offline Caching

Authentication: We use Supabase Authentication to secure logins, manage user sessions, and verify user identity.
Database Storage: We use Supabase PostgreSQL Database to securely store profiles, friendships, groups, and expense lists.
Secure Transmission: All synchronized data is transmitted over secure network protocols (HTTPS/TLS) to prevent unauthorized interception.
Offline Local Cache: ShareMate caches your active data locally on your device using a secure local database (Hive) protected by AES-256 encryption. The encryption key is securely stored in your device's hardware-backed vault (Keychain on iOS / Android Keystore). Any changes made offline (e.g. adding or editing expenses) are saved locally and automatically synchronized with Supabase once your internet connection is restored.

Data Visibility

Searchability: Your profile fields (username, display name, and email) may be searchable by other ShareMate users so they can add you as a friend.
Transaction Privacy: Expense and split details are private and visible only to the related participants or group members.
No Selling of Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to advertisers, data brokers, or third parties.

Data Security

We implement security controls including database rules, authenticated access checks, and encrypted data transfer protocols.
While we utilize industry-standard practices to protect your information, no electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed 100% secure.

Data Retention & Group Activity

We retain your account and expense data while your account is active to provide expense history and balance continuity.
Group Integrity: If you leave or are kicked from a group, your historical splits and transactions remain intact within that group to preserve balance calculation integrity for other members.
Ownership Control: Only the creator or payer of an expense or split retains the authority to modify (edit or delete) that record, ensuring security and transaction traceability for all participants.
Anonymization:

User Safety & UGC Moderation

Blocking List: When you block a user, that preference is stored securely on your account to filter and restrict all future interactions and display settings.
Reporting Data: Abuse and objectionable content reports filed against users are logged and reviewed by administrators within 24 hours to ensure a safe environment.
Moderation Actions: Admin moderation actions (such as kicks, warnings, and suspensions) are recorded to comply with platform moderation guidelines.

Account Deletion Rights

How to Delete Your Account: You can delete your account directly inside the app. Go to the Settings screen, tap the "Delete Account" button, enter your current password for security verification, and perform the "Slide to Delete" action.
Data Removal: Upon deletion, all your active profile data is removed, and historical ledger/split entries are anonymized.

Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
