If you are travelling to Andalucia (Spain) or have visited very recently, you can share your experience of accessibility conditions of your travel journey. This is part of a UCL -sponsored and ethics-approved research project that aims to find out how people with mobility impairments can enhance knowledge of accessibility to various services such as hotels, transport, routes, and sites of interest. Such knowledge can give other people the confidence to take a tourism journey if there is sufficient knowledge of accessibility available.

Why might you be interested?
Around 16 per cent of the world’s population, or an estimated 1.3 billion people, live with disabilities. In the UK alone there are 16 million disabled people. Many will be travellers for tourism. Such travellers face challenges in knowing in advance whether their tourism journey is accessible right from their place of residence to their final destination. This includes learning about accessibility of the modes of transport they take, accessibility of places of stay and accessibility of moving about to and within the sites of interest. You may have faced similar challenges and want to make a difference by contributing information about your own travel experience.
How can you participate?
Participation is for UK residents. You can participate in this exciting project if you have travelled to the Andalucia region of Spain this year and are facing mobility challenges for any temporary or permanent conditions. For example, you might have broken your leg, or you might have multiple sclerosis. You can go through the participant information sheet below and click the survey link below to sign consent electronically and complete a short survey form.

The survey form is a questionnaire to help you enter your accessibility experience of all the various places you have stayed at or visited in Andalucia and the means of transport that you have utilised.
Your participation is beneficial not just for this project but also for a people-led transformation of how we obtain and use accessibility information for our travel journeys, thus making our travel choices better informed and more confident.

About me
My name is Pradeep Rao. I live in Derby, UK. I am a PhD candidate at the IOE, University College London (UCL)'s Faculty of Education and Society; researching in the area of disability and travel. I am also a family member of a person with mobility impairment and have therefore experienced the challenges of travel planning for tourism due to a lack of sufficient knowledge of the accessibility of places. Research problem I am investigating is about how People like us can share information of their own experience of travel collectively thus helping to resolve the gap in online avaialbility of accessibility information.
