ABACUS Workshop K-5: Boost Mental Math Skills with Fun!
March 8, 2025
I had the privilege of hosting a Free Abacus Workshop for K-5 students at the St. Louis County Library, Daniel Boone Branch. This hands-on session introduced young learners to the Abacus Method, enhancing their calculation speed, concentration, and confidence through interactive activities. Parents were thrilled to see their children—who are usually not very attentive—fully engaged. One parent remarked, “I’ve never seen my child this focused in a learning session before!” The structured, fun approach helped students grasp mental math techniques with excitement, making numbers more approachable and enjoyable.
After the workshop, several parents personally expressed gratitude for organizing this free community event. They appreciated our efforts to make quality math education accessible and inquired about future sessions. One parent shared, “We truly appreciate the community work you’re doing—this session was eye-opening!” Given the overwhelming response and the enthusiasm of both students and parents, I look forward to hosting more Abacus and Math workshops in the future. Stay tuned for updates!
Our middle school students participated in an engaging Note-Taking Skills Workshop designed to enhance their study techniques and improve retention. The session introduced three effective methods:
📌 Cornell Method – A structured approach that helps organize notes into key points, summaries, and cues for better recall.
📌 Mind Mapping – A visual strategy that allows students to connect ideas creatively using diagrams and branches.
📌 Outlining – A systematic method of arranging information in a hierarchical format for clarity and logical flow.
Students actively practiced these techniques, gaining valuable skills to apply in their daily studies. The workshop emphasized the importance of structured note-taking in boosting comprehension and academic success.
Robotics Fun for K-5: A Memorable Experience!
February 1st, 2025
What an incredible day! I had the opportunity to volunteer for a community service initiative and lead the Robotics Fun for K-5 Kids event at the St. Louis County Library, Daniel Boone Branch. It was an exciting, hands-on session where young learners explored the world of robotics using Edison Robots and Sphero Mini!
The enthusiasm from the kids was overwhelming. They were so engaged that they didn’t want the session to end—they even asked for an extra three hours just to continue playing with the robots! Seeing their excitement and curiosity reaffirmed my passion for making STEM education accessible and fun.
This event was not only a learning experience for the kids but also marked an important milestone for the Active Learning Institute. Originally established in India, the initiative is now continuing in Saint Louis, MO, as a US chapter. It feels great to be part of a movement that fosters a love for learning and innovation in children!
