Hi, I'm Sharan. I'm a PhD candidate and sessional lecturer at the University of Victoria. I'm passionate about soccer, coaching, and education. I love working with people and working towards greater inclusion, accessibility, and engagement for everyone in sport and education. I grew up speaking English, Hindi, and Tamil. I also speak German and I'm teaching myself French right now!
Journey to Victoria
I grew up in Mumbai, India, and my journey to get to Victoria has been anything but straightforward. Before moving to Victoria in Jan 2023, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to study, coach soccer, and work in some amazing places in the USA (Raleigh, NC), Germany (Konstanz). I did my bachelors and masters in Computer Science and worked as a software engineer for 2 years in the USA before completing my masters in Sports Science in Germany. I have to pinch myself when I think of all the amazing places I've lived in and the people I've met.
My Research
My research focuses on the menstrual cycle in sport and physical activity, co-researching with athletes to share their experiences and help create sport cultures that allow for the simultaneous pursuit of athletic and health objectives for those who menstruate.
My research involves the use of participatory and decolonizing approaches exploring stories and experiences to inform and educate the sporting community. Visit my ResearchGate or Google Scholar profiles if you'd like to view my published work.
