This type of cybersecurity attack is ransomware. in the article it's discussed that the college had to shut down after it's systems detected a ransomware threat to their systems. in a later update it was determined that an unknown entity had got access to the systems and proceeded to steal personal information pertaining to both the employees and the students. The college later spoke out to say that they have taken preventative measures to ensure this doesn't happen again. A few ways that we could protect ourselves from an incident like this would be to have some security training or rather having good authentication devices on our information so that it can't be so easily accessed.

This type of cybersecurity attack is identity theft. a couple in Tennessee made a call to their local police department detailing an identity theft case. she claims that the thief had claimed to be apart of a company that they were familiar with and made it seem as though they owed a payment in which they gave all their information to this person over the phone. with the information that the theif was given, she then went on to steal $63,730 from the couple. a way to protect yourself from this kind of incident would be to avoid sharing information consisting of your social security number or banking details over the phone.
