What We Do

Shankar’s Chess Classes, started in 2016, trains the Students of the following levels :

Elementary

Those students who do not know even the basic movements are taken in this group.  Their Elo points would normally be less than 800.  Classes are conducted online as per the time schedule mutually agreed upon.  The Fee Structure : for Indians (Rs.700) per month for foreigners (5 US $ per hour (or Rs.400/hr).  

Level 1

Students who know the basic movements are taken in this group.  They would be taught all Dos and Donts in chess through various games (lesson 1 to 44). Their Elo points would normally be less than 1000.  After completing 44 lessons they would be tested to solve 200 one move mate puzzles given in :  The Golden Book of One Move Mates   If they score 60% they would be taken to level 2.  Fee Structure : for Indians (Rs. 800) per month for foreigners (5 US $ per hour (or Rs.400/hr).  

Level 2

Students who come to the range of 1000 Elo Points would be taught in this group.  Lesson 45 to 64 are conducted online.  Fee Structure: for Indians (Rs. 900) per month for foreigners (6 US $ per hour (or Rs.480/hr).   Two hundred  nos 1- Move Mates are given as a test and if they score 60%, they would be promoted  to level 3 

Level 3

Students who come to the range of 1200 (but below 1400) are taken in this group.  Lesson 65 to 153 are conducted online (various openings with 5 lessons (Black winning) and 5 lessons (White winning)  Fee Structure : for Indians (Rs. 1000) per month for foreigners (6 US per hour (or Rs.480/hr) Two hundred  2- move puzzles are given to students after completing lesson 153 and if they score 60%, they would be promoted to level 4 

Level 4 

Students who are in the range of 1400 Elo Points but below 1600 are taught in this group.  All tactics are taught in this level.  Fee Structure : for Indians (Rs.1100/- per month) for foreigners (US $ 6  per hour (or Rs.480/hr)   Two hundred 3- move puzzles would be given and if they score 60%, they would be promoted to level 5) 

Level 5

Students who achieve 1600 Elo Points are put in this group. All intricacies in the end game are taught through 100 diagrams.  Fee Structure : for Indians (Rs.1200/- per month) for foreigners (US $ 7  per hour (or Rs.560/hr)   Two hundred  end-game puzzles would be given and if they score 60%, they would be promoted to level 6

Level 6 

Students who achieve 1800 Elo Points are put in this group. How to work out a combination is taught in this group.  This is the maximum level a student can achieve.  200 combinational three-move deep puzzles are given.  Those who score 60% would be considered as having graduated from our School. They would be given a Certificate. Fee Structure : for Indians (Rs.1300/- per month) for foreigners (US $ 7  per hour (or Rs.560/hr) 

General Note : 

For joining the classes, a Student has to fill in the Enrolment Form.  They must have either a Skype or Zoom Id.  The student should  create an account in www.lichess.org and the same should be communicated to us to our e mail id : thirushankar1108@gmail.com or through Whatsapp.

For each level there is a text book which the students can download from this site.  Page : "Syllabus".  (Level 1 and Level 2 books : Each Rs.200/-) Level 3 - Rs.250/-; Level 4 - Rs.275/- ; Level 5 - Rs.300/-

Prior to each class, a Whatsapp message would be given to the student; only after confirmation from the concerned parents, class would be conducted.  After confirmation, if the student  fails to attend the class, due to some reason, that slot would be charged  (This is not applicable for Indian students). 

Tournaments would be conducted among the students and the winners will be given a prize book
