Wutong Road 梧桐路 (“Plane Tree Road”) was named after the grove planted by the French Jesuits, in the seventeenth century, in front of the Catholic church in the walled city.
“Wutong Road is a narrow residential alley that runs perpendicular to the wall of the Yu Garden, starting from the eastern gate. A hundred years ago, wood-clad storefronts along this street specialized in curios, pottery and antiques, but today there are mostly convenience stores that cater to the residents of old shikumen houses on both sides of the street.”
From here you can walk to: Fangbang Road, Sipailou Road, Guangqi Road, Huacao Lane and Kangjia Lane.
