Guangqi Road

光启路

The street commemorating the famous local scientist Xu Guangqi 徐光启 received its name in 1931. Guangqi Road 光启路, with its southern extension South Guangqi Road 光启南路, was once the only straight and wide avenue in Shanghai, running from the entrance of the county magistrate’s yamen all the way to the Big South Gate and then out of the walled city.
