Integration of Windcatcher and Solar Chimney into Minarets to Facilitate Natural Ventilation in a Mosque Building in Tropical Climate
Mosque acts as the most significant institution for the Muslims across the world. Windcatcher is a green traditional method to aid natural ventilation and it has been applied for centuries in the Middle East. In tropical climate, this method is not a commonly found in the local architectural element. Solar chimney is a type of passive solar heating and cooling system that can be used to regulate the temperature of a building as well as providing ventilation.
The proposal aims to integrate windcatcher and solar chimney system through minarets which acts as a passive cooling method to improve thermal comfort as part of airborne diseases management strategy for mosque building in the tropics.
